Nearly every boating topic introduced here gets thoroughly discussed. Do you
have one in mind?

Once a boating topic is underway, however, there will only be about 4-6
responses that address the issue before one of the name callers from one
political side or the other wades in and sends the whole thing spinning into
oblivion.

About 3/4 Politics

I have heavy filters on to toss anything in the subject with:

Bush, Kerry, Cheney, Edwards, Democrat, Repulican, Liberal, Conservative, or
OT

I still see MORE politics than boating.

Yep, lots of politics. But also lots of helpful & knowledgeable boaters.

Try - rec.boats.cruising - there is a more intellectual group of persons
there.

Definitely go with the four stroke. Quieter, better fuel economy,
smoother idle. I think a 90 hp would be plenty of power.

I was just curious. I thought maybe my news server was broken.

Why rec.boats? There are PLENTY of politically related newsgroups out there?

Because that feeble old asshole and his imaginary friends don't have boats,
and blame everything bad that has ever happened to them on the government
and the evil opposition.
They can only bitch about whatever idiotic topic enters their syphillic
brains while pretending to be know it all boaters.
A very few do own some sort of pathetic hulk of a boat that is so
disappointing they must rag on anyone that has a boat that is newer,
faster, louder, more expensive, or longer than the miserable scow they own.

It's not your server. There are a great number of idiots that use this
group for their political arguements

I took about fifteen minutes to filter all of them and now I see very
little.

I filtered headers with a dozen or two key words and about 25 of the
fools who feel they just can't hold a discussion with a politics
newsgroup, so they argue here. It's sad because there are actually a
few who know boats (and many more who don't) who could be interesting to
read, but they just can't control themselves.

Once you get rid of them, it's not a bad group.
