help on Onan generator

I've picked up a lot of good info reading this group , and now am in need of hopefully some info
from someone here. I have an older Onan generator Model 3MTK-1R-1G that i'm in need of wiring
diagram and sevvice manual. Onan has been no help as they keep referring me to the local
distributer where all you get is voice mail and never a return call. Generator Service Company was
able to let me know that it was made in May of 1963. The unit turns over by using the start switch
but I'm not getting voltage to the coils , so no spark at the plugs. If anyone has books on this
that they would like to Sell, give away , or copy, I'd be thankfull .. Take care and good boating

If you Onan is like mine, the wiring diagram is printed on the inside of the
control box lid.

This should be obvious, but did you check the fuses? Mine has three fuses:
if the main fuse is blown the unit won't even crank. There is another fuse
for the choke heater, and the third fuse is part of the fuel pump and I
believe ignition circuit.

You should also check the over temperature and oil pressure shut down
switches, although I believe that if these were bad the motor would start
but would stop as soon as you let go of the starter switch.

Rick- Onan usually couples a "standard" engine to their generators.
If you get no help from Onan (they are not known for outstanding
customer service), try to identify the engine itself. Some here may
be able to help.

Dumb question #1: Have you done a google search on "Onan generator
Model 3MTK-1R-1G"? Sometimes you can find what you need on the
internet.

noah

To email me, remove the "OT-" from wrecked.ot-boats.noah.
....as you were. :o)
