I agree.

There is a group calles alt.politics
I recommend all who are intereste in discussing politics to move over to that group, so that we boaters can still discuss boats and boating issues here in this group. I don't care if this is concidered to be a virtual marina. The whole internet is a virtual marina, so please choose your audience as you would do in RL. Trond "Matt's Arcade" wrote in message ... O.K.
Now that there's interest, what should we call it/them? rec.boats.woodies (classic wood boats ie: Chris Craft) rec.boats. ??? Let me know what you think and I'll create the new NG's. Matt "Matt's Arcade" wrote in message ... What do you think? I'm so tired of wading through the OT posts.... |

"Matt's Arcade" wrote in message ... What do you think? I'm so tired of wading through the OT posts.... Anyone who posts about boats should just use OT in the subject. In this case it would mean - ON TOPIC! The political bozos won't. Greg |

You have any idea what's involved Matt? It's a real headache!
You start it and I'll post to it. Perhaps it could be called alt.boats.ontopiconly Best Wishes, Capt Frank Matt's Arcade wrote: What do you think? I'm so tired of wading through the OT posts.... |

Greg, you have a good point about the OT identifier in the subject. Works real
good in the Harley Davidson NG's. But the (us) Harley folks are more cohesive and less likely to respond to the Harry's of this world. If you can find a way to make it work please let us (me) know! Mike |

If you can figure it out, let me know. Mike It is very simple. No matter how much the crap they post ****es you off, let it go. The only reason Harry and JPS are here is to fight. If there is no fight, they will get bored and move on. Scotty from SmallBoats.com Wrong, booze-breath: *I'm* here for all the wonderful discussions about boating that transcend the level of belles lettres. I like it. But, unfortunately, I do think there needs to
be a moderator. It's not OT that's the real problem, it's the jerks that OT post to provoke others. WTF are political postings doing in this newsgroup anyway. If these folks want a ****ing contest, I'm sure there are plenty of other groups that would welcome the diatribe. Note, I'm not really for censorship, but these ridiculous OT posts have made me rethink that. So, what' the procedure for starting a new group? If you need help moderating, I'll volunteer. -JimL Matt's Arcade wrote: What do you think? I'm so tired of wading through the OT posts.... |

You can learn how to create a new Usenet newsgroup at http://groups.google.com/groups?q=+%...isc.org&rnum=2. I've been part of a newsgroup in the alt.* hierarchy for over a decade. It's a NG that is often overrun by trolls and flamewars. Many times, people have said, "We need a new, moderated newsgroup!" So we dutifully post the information on new group creation and about moderation. No one has ever stepped forward to begin that process. That's understandable, given that it is a process that takes some time and is less than trivial. But the information is at that URL, for anyone who'd like to check it out. Thanks. I'll peruse it and see how to proceed.
I agree that we don't want to censor the posts, but it is so tiresome wading through all the political posts :-( Matt "Joe Parsons" wrote in message ... Serious question: do you have all your faculties? If there are 100 posts some days in rec.boats, I read about 25 of them, and simply skip over the ones I don't want to read. Takes a couple minutes to read the posts I want to read and post if I feel like it. Methinks these complaints are much ado about nothing. -- Email sent to is never read. |

Am I correct? Regards, noah I'm not sure what you are asking here, Noah. There have been a few people I consider friends who over the years I first encountered in newsgroups. I've even met a small number of them in person. Two or three have become close friends whom I visit from time to time. Quite a few of those whose on-line friendship I really enjoyed simply don't post here anymore; I keep in touch with a couple of them via frequent or occasional emails. I'm not running for Congress, so I see no reason to zigzag so as to cover all sides of the newsgroup and glad-hand everyone who shows up. Most of my true friends I've known for 20, 30, 40 or even in a couple of cases, 50 years. -- Email sent to is never read. |

Here is a idea:
How about every time there is a OT post everyone take the time to reply to the post several times with no message at all, then the ones that is doing the OT conversations will have to click onto MANY different post just to read. Give them a taste of their own medicine and see how the like to click onto many a lot of post that don't interest them :-) |
