My wife is a real southerner from birth. She has lived in Georgia, Virginia, and Florida. She has never in her life said "all you-all." And at what age did she live in those other states? Neither Florida, south of I-10, Virginia or Maryland are really southern in that Alabama/Georgia sort of way and if she lived in a big city in Georgia it is not all that representative either. There is a stated timeframe for the 2nd shot. I've read that in the case of the Moderna vaccine the second dose is recommended 28 days after the first however the time between the first and second dose can be extended to 48 days. I've also read that the first Moderna and the first Pfizer dose raises your "immunity" to over 90 percent. The second dose only adds two or three percent more, according to the testing. If true, it seems like skipping the second dose making more vaccine available for others might be worth considering. I'd gladly forgo the second dose if Mrs.E. could receive her first instead. I am scheduled for the second Moderna dose next Saturday (March 13th) and am very fortunate that the VA made the vaccinations available. Most seniors in MA are still having a hard time scheduling an appointment to get the vaccine. Mrs.E. is on a waiting list at two vaccination centers. My wife got her shots at a big supermarket pharmacy in DC that was already set up to do various vaccinations. I got mine at a county emergency supply/food storage facility/warehouse with freezers that was set up as a vaccination drive-through. In addition to the county health department personnel handling the task, volunteer firefighters and off-duty county police were outside, doing a bit of traffic directing. The county health department here handled it all perfectly, from announcing the on-line and phone availability of getting a reservation to the on-line and phone reminders of your upcoming appointment to an email announcing the delay because of inclement weather to a follow-up email after the vaccination. My wife had mild reactions to the second shot: a bit of nausea, sore arm, weariness. I had a sore arm and some lower body muscular aches for a night and two days of weariness. All gone now. Whew! |

I expected to pay for it but was told if I had Medicare, it was free ... to me anyway. I received a statement from Walgreens later showing the costs. I've forgotten the exact numbers but Walgreens had the shot priced about 6 pt 8 dollars more than what Medicare paid according to the statement. I am sure it works the same way for the corvid shots except you don't have to have Medicare. |

I've read that in the case of the Moderna vaccine the second dose is recommended 28 days after the first however the time between the firstand second dose can be extended to 48 days.I've also read that the first Moderna and the first Pfizer dose raisesyour "immunity" to over 90 percent. The second dose only adds two orthree percent more, according to the testing. If true, it seems likeskipping the second dose making more vaccine available for others mightbe worth considering. I'd gladly forgo the second dose if Mrs.E.could receive her first instead.I am scheduled for the second Moderna dose next Saturday (March 13th)and am very fortunate that the VA made the vaccinations available.Most seniors in MA are still having a hard time scheduling anappointment to get the vaccine. I didn't notice anything after the first Moderna dose other than a very slightly sore arm the next day which is pretty much normal for any kind of shot. Hopefully it will be the same after the second dose next Saturday. We have friends up here who have already received the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Haven't heard of any bad reactions so far. It's still hard to get an appointment for any of the vaccines. Those who have been successful sit on a computer or cell all day long, watching for an opening at one of about four mass vaccination venues.
