Couple of people communicated via Facebook, so I thought I'd stop by. I've taken a (refreshing) break from political discussions, stopped watching the infamous cable networks, and have avoided social media. Hadn't checked in to Facebook in quite a while. It has been nice. I realized that other than casting a vote every couple of years, there's really nothing the average person can do to influence the politicians running this country. Sick of listening to all of them ... and that refers to both the Republicans and the Democrats. On the plus side, this morning I received the first of two doses of the Moderna vaccine. MA state rules stilDpm l require you to be at least 75 years old until March or April but I received an email from the VA saying they were offering the vaccine to all vets 55 years of age and up. So, I took a ride over to the VA facility in Brockton and got the first dose. I'll go back on March 13th for the second. The longest wait was the 15 minutes they require you to stay after getting the shot in case of any severe reactions. I had none and still have none. Anyhoo, try to keep the peace. Arguing about politics (of which I was often guilty) serves no useful purpose other than to cause ill feelings and animosity. I think we have much more pressing issues to be resolved. Oh ... for you Floridians .... you are welcome. I think as many people here in MA were rooting for Tampa as they have rooted for the Patriots in the past. Welcome back. I hope things will calm down here soon. We actually did talk about boats a little in reference to the new V-12 Merc. I thought about talking to the VA for my shot but I understand you have to already be in the medical system. I am not really much of a football fan but I have to say Brady and Gronk looked pretty good and the Tampa defense did a pretty good job of shutting down KC. Mahones played a pretty good game. Too bad the rest of the team didn't show up. The grounds keepers and cops did a better job of stopping the streaker at the goal line than the KC defense did all day. Regarding the covid vaccine shot .... the availability may be unique to the Boston area VA Healthcare system based on supply or something. Don't know if it is nation-wide. The notice up here was that if you are "in" the system, you call a number to make an appointment. (although it turns out that wasn't necessary as they were also taking "walk-ins" when I showed up.) But they also said that if you were a Vet but *not* in the system you can call a different number to register and could then receive the vaccine shots. I just called our VA, hoping I might get the second shot. But my first shot was Moderna, and VA is administering Pfizer. I hung up when I heard that. May call back and see if I can take two Pfizer's after having the first Moderna. I'll bet they say no! -- Freedom Isn't Free! I read today that the Boston VA Healthcare System received an additional 200,000 Moderna doses last week. Sounds like it may have been unexpected and in addition to the previous allocation. They announced the availability for all Vets 55 years old and over on Thursday, Feb 11th. === Good news for sure. Hope you and your family have all managed to stay healthy. I don't see the vaccine as really changing much in my protocol since I am far more worried about the people I take care of than me and the vaccine does not stop you from carrying the disease. I still keep my distance and bathe in hand sanitizer whenever I am out and about. All the places I go have it at the door and I have a big bottle in the door pocket of all of my cars. |
