I really don't know what "the sides" here are and what the issues are and even if I did, I wouldn't pck one. I'm not interested in insults and namecalling. I have noticed in reading some posts that there is a lot of insulting going on here. Not much interested in those sorts of discussions. How about a nice game of chess?

No offense, but your "no man" fellow doesn't seem different than some of the other posters here in that they all toss insults willy nilly at other posters. Was this ever a popular group with a lot of posters of different views on topics about boating or just topics of the day? We are supposed to have tstorms today, but I am going to try to get in a little skinny water fishing. Either that or my wife's endless honeydo list.
Where are you fishing?

Inlet and ICW south of Fernandina Beach north of Jacksonville, FL. Caught some nice whiting on dead shrimp. Good eating fish. Beached the boat on a sandbar in the inlet and took a dip, too. Couple of thunderstorms, hey you only die once, right?
I assume you have a real boat and your Dory is a hobby. ;-)

I had a 1928 Johnson and I thought about a little wooden boat to match
but I settled for a 12' jon boat and the new 7.5 Merc I got when I got
the old Johnson. It was a good skinny water boat tho and it has
oarlocks.

I have a small Whaler which is nearly impossible to row but I want a dory or something like a dory that I can row to the edges of the channels where the oyster shell beds are and the good fish hide out. Motors even small ones scare away the fish.

===

Electric trolling motors are designed to do exactly what you want. And
they probably make less fuss than rowing, not that there's anything
wrong with wanting a dory.

I've busted a couple of battery trolling motors on the oyster beds. I prefer an oar or a push pole. I am a minimalist boater. Carry a compass and portable vhf radio in a bag, along with cellphone. No fancy boat electronics. If I get another boat though I sure want a bimini top to keep the sun off me..

There are a couple of companies up in New England that make these sorts of boats. Just need a small outboard and they are rowable, too. I like this company's 14 foot model. It's manufactured in Rhode Island. I just putt putt around in the inland and coastal waterways.

I usually have the outboard lower unit out of the water when I get close to the shell banks. I can scull or pole my way to where I want to be in proximity to the shell shallows. You really want to as quiet as you can and the whirrrrrrrr of a trolling motor doesn't help. A push from the tip of an oar is pretty quiet. I do carry a spare plastic prop in case I destroy the stainless one on the outboard. If you are careful with the noise, you can catch nice flounder, sea trout, reds and such. Sometimes I beach the boat in a soft mudbank and climb up and fish from shore and cast into a pool between a shell bank and the shore. I've lost a few sneakers in the muck doig that!

If I get another boat though I sure want a bimini top to keep the sun off me.

Sounds like a kayak might fit the bill.

Thats what I thought. He has his mind made up on a dory.

There are a couple of companies up in New England that make these sorts of boats. Just need a small outboard and they are rowable, too. I like this company's 14 foot model. It's manufactured in Rhode Island. I just putt putt around in the inland and coastal waterways.

If you've busted trolling motors, wouldn't you be tearing up props in the same
waters?

Trolling motors usually have plastic props. I wouldn't own an outboard
without a stainless prop. Oysters become chum with one of them but the
real trick is to have the local knowledge about where they are so you
are not hitting them.
