Former Republican CIA, FBI heads and national security officials to
back Biden

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Over 70 former Republican national security
officials including ex-CIA and FBI chiefs will endorse Democratic
presidential candidate Joe Biden on Friday while launching a scathing
indictment of President Donald Trump, calling him corrupt and unfit to
serve.

The group, called Former Republican National Security Officials for
Biden, includes some of the most senior Republican members of the U.S.
defense and intelligence establishment to have served in the
administrations of Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush and
Trump.

The 73-strong group includes retired General Michael Hayden, who
served as national security director and head of the CIA; William
Webster, the only man to serve as both head of the CIA and FBI; John
Negroponte, the first director of National Intelligence; Michael
Leiter, former director of the National Counterterrorism Center; and
Mike Donley, former Air Force secretary.

Their full-throated condemnation of Trump and backing of Biden will
come three days before Trump’s nominating convention opens on Monday
and underscores how the Republican president has alienated some
members of his own party, especially among intelligence and foreign
policy veterans.

“Trump has demonstrated that he lacks the character and competence to
lead this nation and has engaged in corrupt behavior that renders him
unfit to serve as president,” the group plans to declare in a
full-page ad in The Wall Street Journal on Friday.

“We have concluded that Donald Trump has failed our country and that
Vice President Joe Biden should be elected the next President of the
United States,” it adds.

The group is one of a number of Republican organizations opposing
Trump’s re-election in the Nov. 3 election.

Collectively, they object to his alienation of U.S. allies abroad and
his leadership at home, most recently his response to the coronavirus
pandemic, which has killed more than 170,000 Americans and triggered a
severe economic downturn, as well as his reaction to nationwide
protests over racial injustice and police brutality against Black
Americans.

The Trump campaign has described Republican-led groups campaigning for
Biden, such as Republican Voters Against Trump and 43 Alumni for Biden
- hundreds of officials who worked for George W. Bush - as “the
swamp,” disaffected former officials “trying to take down the duly
elected President of the United States.”

Trump himself has expressed contempt, saying on Twitter last year that
such “Never Trump Republicans” are “human scum.”

Bob Tuttle, who was director of personnel under Reagan and ambassador
to the UK under George W. Bush, is a member of the national security
group and said Trump’s handling of the coronavirus crisis had been
“abominable.”

“He’s a malignant narcissist. He’s a liar. He’s a despicable human
being and the worst president in American history - it’s not even
close,” Tuttle told Reuters.

Another group member, James Glassman, an undersecretary of state in
the George W. Bush administration, said Trump had created “global
chaos.”

“Lack of leadership has led to the deaths of 170,000 Americans,”
Glassman said. “There’s no excuse in the country with the best health
scientists in the world.”

The group lays out a detailed charge sheet against Trump, including
accusations that he is unfit to lead in a national crisis, undermined
confidence in U.S. elections, aligned himself with dictators, preached
a “dark and pessimistic view of America” and attacked and vilified
immigrants.

The national security group will launch a website on Friday and come
under the umbrella of another anti-Trump organization run by
Republicans, Defending Democracy Together. The former national
security officials raised $140,000 among themselves to launch their
effort.

all. Trump will have to work extra hard to cover those 70 votes.

Respectfully Wayne, your assertions don't fly. Specifically, how is he "a threat to democracy and the constitution"? Hell, he can't even get his wall built! And the whole threat to democracy phrase is pretty tired. The US isn't even a true democracy.

Besides, here's who Tuttle really is:

"A California native, he was nominated to be ambassador by U.S. President George W. Bush. He had raised more than $200,000 for Bush's 2004 re-election campaign and inauguration ceremony.[3] Both Tuttle and his predecessor William Farish were both wealthy private citizens with personal and financial ties to the Bush family.[4] Tuttle is the son of Holmes Tuttle, founder of the Southern California chain of auto dealerships and, in the 1960s and 1970s, a prominent force behind the political rise of actor Ronald Reagan. Tuttle previously worked in the White House during the Reagan administration as an assistant to the President in 1982, and director of presidential personnel in 1985. An avid tennis player, he enjoyed occasional games of tennis at the White House tennis court. Tuttle was also on the board of directors of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.[citation needed]

He is a graduate of Stanford University, and earned his Master of Business Administration degree at the University of Southern California. Tuttle is a partner in the Tuttle-Click Automotive Group based in Irvine, California, and the Jim Click Automotive Group based out of Tucson, Arizona."

So he's a privileged rich kid with ties to other wealthy political families who earned a position by his fundraising. He has an MBA, and is in the "clique". He was smart to use his daddy's money and connections to elevate himself. I'm not so sure he's really smarter than anyone in this NG, maybe just better born and more cunning. :)

I'd like to know what Tuttle would have done differently. Biden, et al, say the
same thing, but never say what they'd have done differently. Dr. Fauci, under
oath, stated his approval for Trump's actions. Of course, Trump could have kept
his mouth shut a bit more.

Fauci said the big difference between us and other countries was the shut down.
Whereas the successful countries in Europe shut down 95%, we shut down only 50%.
Big difference - the leaders of the countries in Europe can order the country to
be shut down. Here our President doesn't have that power over the states.

Yes, Trump is a narcissistic asshole, as I've stated repeatedly. He's no worse a
liar than the Clintons, that's for damn sure.

As for the Constitution, there are many who believe the Democrats would come
much closer to doing away with it.

If Biden wins and the Senate goes Democrat, I believe we'll see some drastic
changes to this country. By opening the borders, making citizens of the illegals
already here, buying more votes with welfare, we'll not see Republicans in
charge for a long time. Look at the cities and states with the big problems now.
They're not, for the most part, run by Republicans.

I am far more concerned with the Senate and the house than the
president but my real interest is the local elections where hundreds
of votes can carry the day and my personal interests are more at
stake.
I have gone out of my way to be sure the Council has heard me speak

We understand that. The problem is he Democrat’s are putting up bigger
crap. Just look at what Nancy and Chuck have done with the virus.

And I also think Trump has done a better job as POTUS than the previous 5.

See the advantage of voting for Gary. I don't have to admit I voted
for Trump or Hillary.

I am getting resigned to the idea that we will get Biden and I just

The republic will survive as long as the dollar does. The only

I just hope my prediction of the debt bubble crash outlives me.

I am far more concerned with the Senate and the house than the
president but my real interest is the local elections where hundreds
of votes can carry the day and my personal interests are more at
stake.
I have gone out of my way to be sure the Council has heard me speak
and the town manager knows me. That is how I got our road fixed in a
day.

Of course. That would explain your non-voting for a potential president.

No, you both insist that I vote for "someone who can win" and at this
point that is Trump or Biden and if I really felt obligated to vote
for the winner, Biden is looking more likely every day.
As I said, I really tried to give Trump a chance but he is not
maturing.
I also can't vote for Biden, so what am I supposed to do? I will pick
someone I like, vote for her (if nothing changes Jo Jorgensen) and be
resigned I am going to lose.

Roughly half the population throws their vote away in every election.
Hillary would point out it was far more than half in 2016.

"Sometimes you need to let the baby touch the stove".

The republic will survive as long as the dollar does. The only
question is how long that will be. My predictions have a scary habit
of being right. I just think things will happen sooner than they do
(like the housing crash)
I just hope my prediction of the debt bubble crash outlives me.

I am far more concerned with the Senate and the house than the
president but my real interest is the local elections where hundreds
of votes can carry the day and my personal interests are more at
stake.
I have gone out of my way to be sure the Council has heard me speak
and the town manager knows me. That is how I got our road fixed in a
day.

Of course. That would explain your non-voting for a potential president.

No matter who wins, Gregory can say "I didn't vote for him". I guess he
hates trump and Biden equally. There's no other explanation for why he
won't do his patriotic duty.

===

That's a bit harsh. His patriotic duty is to vote, not to vote for
someone you approve of.

I saw nothing in that comment suggesting Greg vote for someone Justan approved
of, only that he vote.

For me the choice is easy. I am going to vote for the one who will act for
the country, not his party. Besides all the swamp dwellas smell pretty bad
to me.

You're reading in to it something that wasn't said. A Fat Harryism, as it
were. ;-)
The way I see it, he's throwing his vote away. Like it or not one of the two
will be the next president. He should choose which he thinks will better
represent the country.

Roughly half the population throws their vote away in every election.
Hillary would point out it was far more than half in 2016.

Thats Fat Harry speak. This isnt a horse race. Bet on the one you want to
win not the one you think will win.

Bull****.

Vote for the one with the least faults. Or just cop out. It's your choice.

The pros and cons of Biden and Trump are not identical.

Your vote for Jo, knowing she (he?) can't win is just another cop out.

Do your thing, but please don't try to justify a copout as something more than
what it is.
