Two people in Georgia drank liquid cleaning products over the weekend in
misguided attempts to ward off COVID-19, according to the Georgia Poison
Center. Both men had histories of psychiatric problems and are expected
to recover.

The poison center’s director, Gaylord Lopez, said he did not know if the
men guzzled the chemicals because they heard about President Donald
Trump’s statements during a Thursday White House briefing, when the
president wondered aloud if coronavirus could be treated by injecting a
disinfectant into the human body. Since the pandemic began, at least two
other Georgians have fallen ill from similar attempts to clean their
inner organs with household chemicals, even before Trump’s remarks.

Georgia has also seen a rise in cases of children ingesting chemicals
because their parents, distracted while working from home, left them
unattended around unsecured bottles of fluid and medicines, Lopez said.
Overall, poison calls have risen 9 percent this year.

That the Georgians had "histories of psychiatric problems" doesn't mean
they had treatment or the sort of treatment they needed, especially if
they are indigent and in a Southern state. Hell, Bilious, you aren't
indigent and you live in a wealthy state...why haven't you received the
psychiatric help you so obviously need?

I believe that but it probably has more to do with people leaving
whatever disinfectants they have, around for the kids to find, than
they normally would because they use them so often. As to what winos
are willing to drink, if it remotely smells of alcohol, bottoms up.
Nothing new there.

BTW the news was carrying a story today that they need to make hand
sanitizer smell and taste worse because people are drinking it.
That must just be kids.

Obviously Maryland falls into that category. The streets of Baltimore
and the DC suburbs are littered with bums who have mental problems and
who are not getting care, whether it is available and they won't go or
it is simply unavailable.

they get the lower tier professionals.


Your assumption that indigent people get decent care paid for by
Medicaid for mental health issues speaks loudly to how little you know.
A small number may, no question about that, but most do not. In
addition, some states have waiting lists more than a year long.

I am not sure how Maryland is doing but if someone gets "Baker acted"
here, they will see a doctor. If they actually want help it is usually
available (mostly drugs) but most people check themselves out the next
day and don't want any help or they just take their bottle of pills
and go.
