??Noise in volvo i/o??-Newbie question

My guess is the noise eauates to a u-Joint or trumpet (read: gimbal)
bearings that were not greased at the factory.

If its an 2004, have the dealear look at it. Opinions here, whether good
or bad, cannot substitute for free inspection and repair under warranty.

New to sterndrives, but not to boating. Just bought '04 Glastron w/3.0
I/O.
I've been hearing a noise(click/rattle) in neutral whenever steering
is turned more than 3/4 way either left or right. Can also get noise
if lift outdrive to shallow water (High, but not trailer)position.
Is it normal to hear the i/o u-joints as they get near their
"flex-limit"?
Should I hear.. some noise...or no noise at all? When started cold
almost can not hear it,,, is loudest after long run at cruise,,my
other boats were all outboards,,this is new to me,,all help
appreciated.

You may have bearing wear in your universal joint which becomes noisy when
the joint is at much of an angle - the joint may be rubbing on bellows but
this would give a different sound i would imagine.

Since it's a 2004, why not just call your dealer... I presume it's under
warranty.

No noise is acceptable, do the joints now before they go out and destroy$$$.
Do all the boot's while you're there. Get ready to do them again next year.
Don't make hard turns and don't over trim with the engine running, this is
what ruins them quickly.
