I saw one of these today at Publix. Interesting. It has a BMW look
(horizontally opposed 2 cyl) with more of a WWII Harley body style,
with the springer front end. It had the sidecar like this but was a
machinery gray color.

They were a copy of captured German beemers from ww2 with very few improvements over the years.

Someone here has a Ural sidecar version in military green colour taking tourists or locals around for sightseeing.

I think I've seen only one in this country. I saw several in Europe, but they aren't very popular.
Bad reputation for reliability.

Once in a great while I see a motorcycle with a a traditional sidecar.
Back when I was a kid, you'd see a lot more of them and even Cushman
scooters with sidecars. There were also utility carts that attached to
the sides of the Cushmans.

Ural motorcycles have an interesting history.

According to Wiki the Soviet Union "acquired" the design and production
techniques of the German BMW R41 back in 1941. The Wiki article
doesn't exactly spell out how this was accomplished but the
"acquisition" of the design and technology wasn't exactly a legal
transaction. They bought some BMW's secretly through a 3rd party and
then reversed engineered them. They were introduced in the Soviet Union
in 1941 as the model "Dnepr M-72.

The Soviet Union produced over 30,000 of them during the war years and
for a few years after.

In 1957, the M-72 production lines were sold to the People's Republic of
China.

Didn't Mike and Frank on "American Pickers" stumble upon one in one episode?

No idea. If I wanted a sidecar rig, I'd probably use my Guzzi. Saw a lot of them in Europe and a few
at Guzzi rallies here in the US.

This one looks brand new. I should have looked at the odometer.
I guess that does explain the WWII look I was talking about tho.
Reading a little on the Ural web site, it looks like the side car is
part of the design. They even talk about 2WD models. I am not sure if
they are all 2WD.
I was hoping to run into the guy and ask him about it but I waited
about as long as I wanted to be hanging around in a parking lot.
(policed up a few shopping carts, picked up a little trash, then I
started feeling like a stalker)

It probably was new. Ural Motorcycles are still made in Russia and
exported.
