Wayne, you in particular may like this:

Video made by two friends of mine from the guitar shop days.

Cecilia and George used to perform on the shop's stage regularly
as singer/songwriters. Two years ago they bought a 41' Hans Christian
sailboat that was in rough shape and have completely rebuilt her.

George is a carpenter known for doing extremely fine finish work.
Cecilia was originally from Norway but her family immigrated to the
USA when she was young.

Anyway, they have been working on "Ring of Kerry" for the past two years
and are about to sail off to distant lands this summer. They recently
got married as well.

Cecilia is the one singing in the video. I just wish it was a little
larger but it is a nice record of their work and preparations.

They are an awesome couple. She has a very interesting background
having founded a unique on-line travel service that became very
successful. She sold it a few years ago. I remember talking to George
shortly after they bought "Ring of Kerry" and George was just estimating
the work involved to bring her back to good shape. Well, one thing led
to another and they've basically rebuilt the whole boat including new
tanks, new engine, new teak, all new hull penetrations plus new canvas
(that they made) all new electronics and a refurbished cabin. I could
never tackle a job like that.

I should probably add that the song she is singing is an original
composition and performed by her and George.

Just for kicks I found a video of one of their performances at the
guitar shop. The shop wasn't completely outfitted yet but we hosted
a fund raiser for a nearby town that was raising money for some cause
that I can't remember. About 30 local singer/songwriters and bands
performed throughout a full Saturday to help raise money. Anyway, here's
the video. Another original by her:

Nice, thanks for sharing. It reminds me that we really need to get
back to Maine one of these days. There's nothing like it in the
summer, at least not in the US.

This year we're planning a little mid-summer hiatus to Denmark,
Scotland, Iceland, Greenland and Nova Scotia - on Royal Caribbean. The
plan is to leave our boat somewhere in the Boston area while we do all
that, assuming we can find a suitable marina with good security and
easy access to Logan International.

All impressive accomplishments. However from a financial standpoint
they would no doubt have been better off to buy a boat that didn't
need as much work.

As you know the transient slip availability is limited up here and it's
pricey. I'd start looking early. Too bad I sold the 55' slip we had
on the upper Cape. Not exactly close to Boston but there is rail and
buses that run regularly.

Don't know. I've never used Uber. Feel badly because I probably should
offer to drive you to Logan and pick you up when you return but the
truth is I haven't driven into Boston or Logan for years and have no
plans to do so. Mrs.E occasionally flies (I don't) and when she has to
get to the airport we hire a limo service that we have used for years
.... going back to when I had the business and traveled often. The owner
of the limo service is a hot **** and he still gives us his "corporate"
rate.
