Carrying...An Experiment

One of the reasons some folks decry the idea of teachers carrying a handgun is because it would
interfere with their teaching job. They have so many things for which they are responsible, that the
added pressure of carrying a gun would greatly decrease their teaching effectiveness. They would
always be thinking of the gun.

So, for three days this past week, I exercised my right to carry a firearm. Carried a P938 in a
pocket holster continuously. Even went into a Starbucks with it, having missed the 'No Guns' sign on
that one. Carrying is something I don't normally do, so there was a newness aspect to it.

That lasted all of about five minutes. For three days the only time I thought of the gun was when
reaching for my billfold, which I normally carry in the right front pocket, dropping my drawers to
take a crap, and sometimes when I got into the truck. I would say that for about 90% of the time,
the fact that I was carrying did not enter my mind.

I think the same would be true of teachers. I don't think carrying a firearm would inhibit their
teaching at all. For the most part, they would forget they had a firearm on their person, until they
sensed a threat.

I agree with you. When I had the guitar shop I carried everyday. Once
the "newness" of carrying wore off, I rarely even thought about having
the gun in my pocket or on my belt.
