Received a letter from Toyota today.
It is an "Exclusive Upgrade Notification" with my very own "Personal Web Key".

Local dealer is apparently "the site for an exciting and unique Toyota Truck Upgrade Sale" which is only available to select clients.

I was wondering if I should contact and tell them that a handful of know-it-alls in wrecked.boats claim that my Highlander isn't a truck.

Anyway they are offering interest rates as low as 0%...cash incentives up to $4k and a special $2k trade-in voucher. Gotta make up my mind by Feb 26.
You'll do it. You fall for all of that sales BS.
Well, I do have 43700 kilometers on the odometer (roughly 27000 miles) and it will be 5 years old at the end of next month. Plus I like the new dash much better. Decisions...decisions.
Wife was working on me to trade in our Bayliner for a VR4...a full 18 feet long and wider. Comes with either a 200hp I/O or a 115 hp Mercury outboard. have to admit the 175BR squats a bit in the water with passengers in the rear jump seats and it's a bit more effort to get it up on plane compared to when there is only the two of us and our Springer Spaniel.

Everyone told you that boat was underpowered.

135 hp for a 17.5 foot boat?? Not likely.
We just need a bigger boat with more hp if we plan on carrying guests on a regular basis.

A 90HP outboard on that same boat would outperform the 135 I/O and
probably burn less fuel. Bayliner has offered under-powered boats for
as long as I can remember. They shoot for a price point and cut corners
wherever they can to make that happen.

He won't admit it. Harry, the Bayliner hater, kept quiet on that
purchase. You would think he would have helped his only friend.

Yup. Harry turned the advice into a 'personal attack' on Donnie. I suppose Donnie now thinks he can
get a wider boat in his driveway.

He'll need an additional wife to help him pull that off.

I got a 0% interest offer from Toyota when I got the Tacoma. No trade
necessary, though I did have a trade. I think there was also a $1000
cash incentive, but I don't recall for sure. The dealership tried to
sell me on a bunch of "add-on" accessories (such as undercoating" which
I turned down.

Most of those 0% deals are an OR deal. 0% financing or some bucks rebate.
California, we. Get screwed on rebates. You pay sales tax on the whole
deal. Before rebate. And the rebate is taxable. Just take the money
off the price!

That only works if the rebate is from the dealer. If it's from the
manufacturer, they have to make it a line item.

In California they tax the the sales price before rebates. Dealer or
manufacturer.

A dealer "rebate" is nothing more than a discount so it should be a
reduction in the sales price.

Should be. But we have pols who love to spend.

That sucks.

"Well advised" on what...my truck, my boat...??

What truck? You call your SUV a truck? Do you do so around truck owners?

You were well advised about the boat.

My my, JohnnyMop. You're getting ditzier than Ditzy.
It's Toyota (the manufacturer) who calls my Highlander a 'truck'. On my little pink insurance slip it's referred to as a 2013 Toyota Truck.
Maybe it doesn't fit the 'merican criteria for a big road hog belching gas or diesel fumes but it's rated as a truck.

Probably so they can gouge you for higher registration and insurance fees.

No problem.

When we had the driveway paved almost 2 years ago, they brought in what they called a "full sized paving machine". Had to keep insisting that they not go over onto the neighbour's property. I had marked the property line as close to the inch as I could. The little guiding side wings did let a little asphalt spill over.

I looked on ebay for a driveway widener. Not a single one for
sale. I guess you are **** out of luck.

Look on Craigslist. Driveways are hard to ship so Ebay doesn't sell
that many.

A road widener ought to work on driveways! Donnie just needs one of these:

Duh...Johnny.
The machine was working at it's minimal width of about 10' 7"..which is the width from my foundation wall to the property line. Since I need about a foot to make sure I don't scrape the boat on my house side...that would give me a little over a foot and a half to get past my boat with the lawnmower, wheelbarrow, ladders etc. without scratching my boat or climbing up over the neighbour's garden boxes.

If you can't widen your driveway, why bring up the need to widen your driveway. If you can't buy a
bigger boat 'cause your driveway's too small, why talk of buying a bigger boat?

BTW, as long as you've got a couple inches, you should be able to back that boat in. If I can back
that 33' trailer into a bay to get new tires, you can surely back that boat into a 9' driveway.

The newer Bayliners have improved on that 1980's - 1990's business plan.

He won't admit it. Harry, the Bayliner hater, kept quiet on that

Yup. Harry turned the advice into a 'personal attack' on Donnie. I suppose Donnie now thinks he can

===

Yes. Bow riders are nororious for taking water over the bow in rough
conditions unless they are trimmed way up and run off plane. I have a
27 foot bow rider that behaves exactly the same way so length is not
the answer. For rough water you really need high freeboard forward.
Take a look at serious fishing boats like Grady Whites.

I don't know where Don goes boating but a bowrider is no place for the

You're saying, donnie, that you bought a 'bowrider' but the book says no riding in the bow? There's
seat cushions and pads up there, but 'no riding in the bow'? Are you sure you don't mean 'no riding
on the bow with feet dangling over the bow'?

Donnie, I'd really have to see that statement in your book. Which book are you quoting?

I'm kinda researching buying a small boat for the move to Hilton Head.
Sentimental favorite is a 16' Amesbury Dory with a 20 or 25 hp outboard:

http://stur-deeboat.com/wp/wp-conten...16-strip1a.jpg

Or a Carolina Skiff, or one of the aluminum fishing boats that are
common down there.

Lots of skinny water, so shallow draft is important.

After you are on plane your guests should move to the back of the
boat to avoid stuffing the bow.

Between 2/3rds and 3/4qtrs salt and brackish water...rest on fresh water.
The salt is usually halifax Harbour, the NoethWest Arm and Bedford Basin, St Margaret's bay and Mahone Bay. Brackish would be Porters lake and the Bras d'Or lakes.

They might get sprayed while it plows through the waves. Boats like
that sit very low in the water.

The other problem is these things have a wide bow with very little
deadrise so they can really get to pounding. Deck boats are the same
way. My buddy with a Hurricane 26 tossed a 48 quart cooler right out
of the bow of his boat hitting a wave in the Big Carlos inlet.

That is what I think of as a bow rider. It is certainly what a deck
boat is, except they are usually longer. Some of those Tri hulls were
damn near square. (length just over twice the beam.)
I see a couple around here with northern numbers and 2 fat ladies
sitting up front.
