Big Problem With Bump Stock Ban

How do you equalize those who have them and those that
don't? They've been selling like hotcakes. And it's the
bad guys buying them, just like the Las Vegas perp.
So a ban gives the bad guys an advantage.
I say we don't need any new damn laws.
They should allow the sale of the M3E1 to civilians.
It's obviously open carry, but that shouldn't be a problem.
It's the best way to defend against "Las Vegas" style
massacres.
Note at about 10:50 the soldier explains the exact "Las
Vegas" scenario - defeat the enemy through a window.

Those who don't have them can aim.

If congress is really serious they can outlaw possession of all
pseudo-automatic accessories, including bump stocks. They could then
subpoena sales records and investigate purchasers for compliance with
the ban. How many future mass shootings would that prevent? Probably
zero.

The problem is that pesky constitution. That would represent a
"taking" unless they provide "just compensation". (same with all of
these confiscation schemes) If the government really wants to
reimburse everyone who bought one, that would be legal but you also
suggest that there are actually "sales records" for all of these. That
is just naive. It is like saying we have sales records for all of the
Trac Phones 7-11 sold. The best you could hope for is that they could
match some to credit card transactions. Cash? forget it.
Since they are not serialized parts, there is no way to trace one. I
have heard the CAD spec is already floating around the net for your 3D
printer.
Again, the more the media sensationalizes these, the more they will
sell. It is just human nature. I think it is a dumb thing to have and
making it a class III item would not bother me but that cat is out of
the bag now. I have never actually seen one but watching the videos on
TV makes it look like a fairly trivial thing to make if asthetics are
not important to you. Just using a longer stock bolt and putting a
spring in there probably works. This is based on the principle of the
receiver/trigger group moving back against a spring with recoil and
the grip, along with your finger staying put.
I know my O/U shotgun "doubled" once on me because I did not have a
good grip on the stock and that was just thick gloves and a heavy
coat.
