I have always been a shower a day guy (before I go to bed) and if I am
working outside I shower out there, maybe several times a day. (no
soap tho)
It is mostly just to keep the dirt out of the pool. I am in the pool a
lot and Deuce is in there several times a day too. When we had the AC
off, he just stayed wet because he could just walk out there and jump
in. He seems ****ed that we have the doors closed now.

Yikes. I was complaining about 0.8 GPH. If you are happy burning 36
gallons a day and up, I will STFU. What do you pay for propane? It
seems to be $2-4 a gallon here depending on some mysterious formula.
A 250 gallon tank (really 200) is only going to last 5 days at the low
end of usage and you could burn it in 3 days if you actually used that
17KVA
Yikes!
So much for the whole house generator for me. Mine did run my whole
house minus the AC, dryer and water heater and I have a plan for the
water heater. With a pool, the AC is not important during the day and
at night my generator runs the mini split in the bedroom just fine.

Water cooled diesel is the best way to go if you can handle the
initial cost - much quieter, much more fuel efficient. Of course it's
even better if it comes with a boat wrapped around it. :-)

The last time I looked, some months ago, it was about $2.59 a
gallon.
Our "outages" usually last only a few hours, sometimes
overnight, and
of personal comfort
typically we only get one every few months. We
got the generator after a
big outage that lasted a week. Our yippy-dippy local
electrical co-op

less than we'd spend on a decent local motel, assuming we

You'd move into a motel because of a four day power outage if
you didn't

Why?

For starters, my wife wears suits and other professional outfits

once a

toilet. Then
there is the matter when it is too hot outside. And so forth.

Funny. My dermatologist, the first time I saw him a few years back,
asked how often I showered.
"Almost every day," I said. He said cut back to about every three
days. All that showering was bad
for the skin. Works for me, unless I've been walking a golf course
that day.

I got in the habit of showering twice a day years ago, though once in a

a client or friends. It's just habit. Our cats do seem to prefer
sniffing my feet when I skip the morning douse. :)

Only a real boat will do unless you're willing to settle for imaginary
results. Real boats will really increase the cost and maintenance of
course, but you get the fringe benefit of being able to work certain
people into a lather, at least if the real boat is big enough, holds
enough fuel, etc.

The first thing I addressed was cleaning up the pool. That goes a long
way towards keeping cool and not developing that 3d world smell.
Flushing toilets is the easy one. Just dump a bucket of water in it.
OTOH if you have a lift pump, it might just come up in your bath tub.
My septic is gravity operated. When they told me all new systems might
have to be mound systems I just fixed the one I had ... off the books.
Tiki bar builders know how to do that sort of thing ;-)

Florida ... or at least some sections of it ... does not seem to have a
big problem with septic systems which surprised me because of the water
table. When we bought the first house in Jupiter I asked if the septic
system had been routinely pumped or if any inspections were required.
The realtor looked at me like I had two heads.

Up here it's recommended you have your system pumped once a year ...
every two years max. We also have a mandatory inspection called "Title
V" that the homeowner is responsible to have done when selling the
property. The inspection is basically to ensure the tank, "D" box and
leeching field is working properly. Some of the older homes fail and
it can prevent a sale. The state also banned mound systems a few years
ago. So, if your system fails the inspection, you can plan on a $30k to
$50k expenditure.

Its nice to have a 28k Katolite 110/220 single phase gen that drives from a tractor PTO. I don't have a tractor big enough to pull it but my next door neighbor does. His 4440 John Deere is also set with a hi/low PTO. You set it in high range and then you can idle the engine down for fuel savings.

Right before bad weather hits, it's dug out, hooked up to make sure it works correctly, then stored it till its needed. Both our houses are set for external power. Fortunately we haven't needed it...yet.

I considered getting a PTO powered generator for the diesel John Deere
tractor I had. At 28-30 hp it would be capable of about a 14kw-16kw
generator.

But then I realized that most of our power outages would likely be in
the winter during heavy snow storms and I'd want to use the tractor for
clearing snow in areas that the truck plow (that I bought later)
couldn't get to.

So, instead, I bought the rear mower attachment, a snowblower attachment
and a post hole digger. I used the snowblower attachment once and
realized what a pain in the ass it was to remove the front end loader
and attach the snowblower. So, I sold it and bought the plow for my
truck instead.

It all depends on where the high water mark is when they do a soil
survey but they usually lean toward a mound here, trying to get a
certain amount of dry soil above the water table. It really has more
to do with contaminating ground water than the system working.
As long as you don't mess with it, you are good to go. I had to get an
inspection but it was pretty rudimentary. They just pump the tank,
guess at the size and make sure no water is coming back from the
field. If the kids were here when they inspected it, I doubt it would
have passed because my field was ****. That is what I fixed myself. I
found a school teacher who ran a mini Kabota on his days off, he dug
out a new field, I put in 3 yards of gravel, a chamber system and
hired the renta drunks next door to back fill it.
Why don't they like mound systems there?

Our salt water showers (or baths) were an occasional swim call on Sunday
afternoons. Gunner's Mates would man the sides with rifles watching for
sharks.

Water hours were the norm. Even the water bubblers were turned on for
short periods of time. I guess the Navy figured you got all the water
you needed in coffee and bug juice.

I think that's pushing it. Done that when underway on a ship. When we
returned to port we were all a little ripe.

hot weather, it only takes about 3 days.

I don't know why they banned mound systems. They used to allow them
(the old farmhouse that we owned had one) but they have since been
banned, at least in the area we live. The state is pushing for
"alternative waste treatment" technologies that include composting
tanks, etc.

Got a kick out of your Kabota friend. When we were in Florida I bought
a Kaboda for Mrs.E. to use when she mucked her stalls and had to dump
the crap in a pile to be picked up monthly. My nephew bought a house
not too far from us and his son ended up living in an RV trailer that he
put in his back yard. I drove the Kabota over to his house (about 5
miles away) on the roads and nobody caught me. I dug a big hole for a
tank and a leeching field for him in his backyard. Worked fine but
totally illegal.

The Navigator was pretty good as far as showers went. IIRC, it had a
100 gallon fresh water tank ... might have been 200 gal. Two heads and
two shower stalls. Never ran out of water but then again I'd fill up
the tank anytime we pulled into a marina.

Have you tried scoping the waveform? There might be a surprise hidden

I always lusted after those portable Tektronix units that you CEs used
to lug around.

I bought one of those (or similar) on eBay when I had the guitar shop
and occasionally worked on guitar amps. It still worked great although
it probably was out of calibration. Dual probes too. I lent it to a
guy who was doing some troubleshooting and that's the last I ever saw of
it. Can't even locate him anymore.

I loaned mine to a buddy about 15 years ago. He still has it. Have not
needed it.

I will use that one to check the genset to be sure it is working.

Absolutely. Are you thinking in terms of a sale or a loan?

Gift. Let me be sure it is working OK tho.

I get a kick out of the tire to the left in the image. Never saw a tire
selectively lose it's tread like that. Maybe it was a "recap" at on time.

Agreed but I got it at a farm auction a few years ago, supposedly it didnn't work. I cleaned up some corroded wire connections and polished the commutator rings, and there we go. Sure it's overkill but for $350 bucks?

I'm trying to envision how you'd mount that. The torque load has got
to be substantial. My stbd 6-71 has a spare PTO port but clearance,
not so much.
