Marine F-35s grounded due to software concerns

WASHINGTON – F-35B joint strike fighters based at Yuma Air Station in
Arizona have been temporarily grounded due to issues with a key support
system.

The issue centers on the stealth jet's Autonomic Logistics Information
System, or ALIS, The software behind ALIS is woven through the F-35, and
plays a vital role in everything from planning missions to maintenance. In
April, ALIS 2.0.2 was installed on F-35A models and Navy F-35C models, but
was delayed in getting out to the F-35B jump-jet variants.

Still happy about those self driving cars?

You will when you're 90 years old and the wife wants to take away your
drivers license. I see it as a real plus for places like Florida with
a lot of elderly drivers who really shouldn't be out there. It would
also be nice for places with miserable commutes. You could sit back
and read the morning paper and catch up on your EMAIL while the car
takes you to work, almost like having a chauffered limo at your
disposal.

That's a very real risk in a "Big Brother" safety culture. Driving
your own car might become seen as anti-social and dangerous. If that
happens new forms of rebellion might spring up where sabotage of self
driving cars becomes cool in some circles.

Once the technology is perfected and accepted it's very likely that
insurance rates will be lower for self driving cars. Other advantages
may accrue like having the car drop your kids off for soccer practice
and then return home for other errands.

Actually that is one of the models they are using except the car would
be taking someone else for a ride and the next available car would
take you home when you were ready. I suspect that these cars would be
driving in their own lanes and limiting the places where regular
drivers could drive ... like car pool lanes now. This really looks
like a target rich environment for hackers because a large number of
self driving cars on the road would involve a network that allowed
them to be managed as a group.

More like Government contracting. Not military. Same government you want

The best for commuters would be a version of the Goggle Bus and other high
tech companies. Bus picks up on a route. Wifi, etc. could do it with
area commuters instead of a local bus that you had to change 4 times to get
to work.

One of the controlling members is going to keep it in committee. Says
fatal flaws. Like where is the 400 billion bucks going to come from. Head
of nurses association says is the will of the people. They want it. Sure,
they think it will not cost them. Somewhat true. 1/3 of California is on
Medicaid. Some counties 50%.

Marine F-35s grounded due to software concerns

WASHINGTON – F-35B joint strike fighters based at Yuma Air Station in
Arizona have been temporarily grounded due to issues with a key support
system.

The issue centers on the stealth jet's Autonomic Logistics Information
System, or ALIS, The software behind ALIS is woven through the F-35, and
plays a vital role in everything from planning missions to maintenance.. In
April, ALIS 2.0.2 was installed on F-35A models and Navy F-35C models, but
was delayed in getting out to the F-35B jump-jet variants.

Military contracting, :)

Just what happens when you start making things way too complicated.
