Interesting parallels

With all the violent protests, brick throwing, fire starting going on,
particularly by the progressive liberal students around the country,
it's interesting to note that this isn't the first time.

Back in the late 20's and 30's many, particularly those connected to
"Hollywood" were either sympathetic to or card carrying members of the
Communist Party. The concept communism was a little different then,
being prior to WWII which changed it's reputation due to the leadership
of Joseph Stalin, his murderous ways and his expansionist desires.

Back then the focus was on helping the downtrodden and poor, much like
what the protestors claim today. The actions and attitudes are much the
same however, including violent demonstrations, brick throwing and
physical injuries.

F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote,

“Communism has become an intensely dogmatic and almost mystical
religion, and whatever you say, they have ways of twisting it into
shapes which put you in some lower category of mankind,”

Change "Communism" to "The Resistance" and his comment would be
absolutely true today.

He must have been referring to "deplorables".

Democracy is messy. If the rich keep robbing the middle class and the
poor, you're going to see a lot more of what you apparently abhor in
terms of behavior of the have-nots.

One big problem with that statement is that these mostly are *not* "have-nots". These are well-heeled college kids who have taken on a cause that's been fed to them by a liberal system. They finish throwing bricks and burning, take off their black hoodies, and get in their BMW's to go to Starbucks before settling down to some Xbox action.

The rich robbing the poor? Who is paying 90% of the income tax?

Most significant societal change to help those who most need it has come
about with the leadership and assistance of liberals of every
socio-economic class.

D'uh. Many of those who demonstrated for extending civil rights to
blacks in the 1960s and 1970s were not blacks.
Many of those who demonstrate for rights for women, gays, whatever, are
not women or gay.

I have no problem with demonstrations, protests or marches to promote a
cause. I *do* have a problem with throwing bricks, rocks at police,
lighting fires and destroying or damaging other people's property in an
attempt to underscore your motives.

The "poor" are doing OK.
In DC and Ma they are making $50k a year, just from government
handouts. Md is $38k.
The fight of the 21st century is going to be between the young and the
old who are robbing them. They are just too busy railing on about
other things to notice that most of the debt that is falling on them
is unfunded entitlements for their grand parents.
