USS Zumwalt - DDG1000 - The Navy's Latest and Greatest

We got a peak at the USS Zumwalt the other day as we passed through
Norfolk, VA. It's a bit unusual looking to say the least. I was
tempted to take some pictures but discretion (and some serious looking
patrol boats) got the better of me.

If there were signs prohibiting photography, I'd have kept my cameras away. Otherwise I'd have
snapped away.

If I was outside the exclusion zone, they would have had a hard time
stopping me. I assume any secret stuff would be covered up.

They might be following the Hillary school of secrets.

There's a physical exclusion zone defined by interlinked floating
barriers. You could be shot at for trying to breach that. In
addition there are exclusion zones for things like photography and
"hanging out" that are defined in obscure government CFRs. Boaters
have gotten in trouble up in Groton, CT for taking photos of subs
under construction even though they were in the navigation channel.

The Navy has some pretty effective stopping power. Sure you don't
want to rethink that?

In a way that thing reminds me of Fort Drum in the Philippines

If I was just sitting there shooting pictures with a 1000mm lens I
might be worried but I doubt anyone would say much about me cruising
by in the channel with my Canon A400 ... if they even saw me.
I doubt my pictures would be as good as the ones on the navy.mil site
you linked.

Come and get me copper. I am old, I am not afraid to die (what my wife
said about me when I was doing tricks on the zip line) ;-)
