Sign of the times ....

While visiting my daughter last night I asked
to borrow a newspaper.

"This is the 21st Century, Dad. We don't waste
paper on newspapers. Here, use my i-Phone."

That fly never knew what hit him.

Keeping an eye the neighbour's property this week. They still get the local paper delivered. This newspaper has locked out it's journalist staff and is trying to get by with management and scabs.
What a tiny sad excuse for a newspaper which claims to be the last private family owned major paper in the country.
A shadow of what it was when I was a kid. Reminds me of the free ones available around eating establishments or in the metal box on a street corner.

I still get the Ft Myers Snooze Press. Some days it is pretty skinny,
particularly after you pull out all of the ad stuffers.
They still give you better coverage than we get in the 8 hours a day
of local news we get on TV-2. The paper gives you an in depth article
and the TV gives you a 30 second recap, repeated 20 times a day.

Must be nice to have a local paper that actually does news... The
Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel pretty much just reprints stories from the
AP, or pretends reworded press releases from their favorite politicians
are actual hard news stories.

And they were just purchased by a national media company, so I expect
to see the few remaining decent reporters (all sports page people) to be
given the axe, soon.

They seem to try to have local stories. This is a Gannett paper so
they stuff a USA Today in there to handle the national stories..
