I know you've got one laying around somewhere, so if you're looking to get rid of that old thing, let me know - quickly. Sorry. I am keeping mine. Still runs fine after all these years and some hard use in a couple of them. I figured as much. Hope mine does the same. I am sure it will. I also wouldn't worry too much about return policies. Mine has never gone back to the dealer for anything, including service, while in or out of warranty. All I've done is change the oil a couple of times and clean and oil the air filter twice. It still has the original spark plug in it and like I mentioned, it has had some hard use for a couple of years being used 6-7 hours a day, 5 days a week to power the stone saw the contractors used to cut all the bluestone for the pool. That project took all summer one year and part of the next summer. I used it a lot last summer to power hedge clippers and an electric weed wacker. Put it in the little trailer that came with my riding lawn mower and I'd just drive it to where I needed to work. I pulled the spark plug one day figuring it *must* need to be replaced and it was fine. Even the gap was ok. Great little generator. Did you install an hour meter on yours? No, but your question prompted me to try to estimate the hours on it. My estimate of total hours is somewhere between 800 and 1,000 hrs of running time. After the landscaping contractors used it every day over one summer and part of the next, it was so covered with stone dust that you could barely see that it was red. I didn't mind because the cost of the Honda was a small percentage of the cost of the pool, cabana and landscaping and it was *much* better than listening to their big, noisy contractor's generator running all day in the back yard, so I just sorta donated it to the cause. I figured it would be done for following that. But no. I cleaned it up, changed the oil, cleaned the air filter and stored it away. It sat unused for about 3, maybe 4 years. Even had gas in it to which I had added some Stabil. Then we had a winter storm forecast with warnings of probable power outages. I was at the local hardware store and figured the Honda would never start after sitting for so long so I bought the last generator they had. They were selling like hotcakes and were getting hard to find. Before I unboxed the new one though, I dug out the Honda, put the choke on, pulled the starting cord about 4 times and it fired right up. Couldn't believe it. You can't return generators up here so I sold the new one I had bought to someone desperate for a generator. Used the Honda non-stop during the resulting 4 day power outage. Last summer I used it almost every day doing yard chores and landscaping duties in preparation for selling the house. Started on the first pull everyday and still runs like it did when new. Sounds like it may become an heirloom! Love it. I've not decided on an hour meter, probably won't put all that many hours on it in a season. Just add it to everything else that gets the oil changed in the fall. We're going on our first 'boondocking' venture to a Bluegrass fest in Martinsburg, WV, in a few months. The place has a few acres of available land, and one spicket. No electricity or sewer. It'll be a good prep for a trip without the amenities. -- Ban liars, tax cheats, idiots, audiophools, and narcissists...not guns! Get a long cable and good lock to make fairly sure the generator does not walk away. Home Depot carries long security cables with formed ends. Good idea. Hadn't thought of that. It'll work, but not enough to power the A/C. For that I'd have to get the sister unit and put them together. Then I'd even get a 30amp receptacle. Anyway, got to Home Depot only to find they had none in stock. -- Ban liars, tax cheats, idiots, audiophools, and narcissists...not guns! I have two window AC's that I keep stored for long-term outages. I can have one running in 15 minutes. After the last hurricane they came in handy and draw very little power. I was running one of them, my refrigerator, a garage freezer, and my cable/TV on a 7000 watt generator at the same time. If I had natural gas I would have a standby generator. They are fairly cheap and run automatically. My only option is to bury an LP tank and that's not worth the trouble and it's also empty when it's empty! The Honda will run one window AC and you can switch over to the refrigerator for short periods to keep that cold. You will end up with extension cords running though the house but it's temporary. |

We don't have any window A/Cs, and I could probably get by without A/C in the house. Above I was referring to the one in the RV. The trip we're planning will be in WV in May, so shouldn't be too hot. Honda makes a companion unit to the one we got. When joined they produce enough to run the whole rig, A/C and all - with a little bit of management, i.e. no hairdryer and microwave and A/C etc. at the same time. -- Ban liars, tax cheats, idiots, audiophools, and narcissists...not guns! |

I didn't know it was for the RV from your original post. It will be nice to have access to them for home use in the event of an extended power outage. |

I wouldn't recommend using a generator in the house. Keep it outside.
