I hope he doesn't back out of the Oscars. Hopefully he'll get up there and blast the
process.

On the other hand, if the entire GLBTZ community deserves recognition, along with
blacks, there isn't much room left for racial diversity.

Not to worry: someday soon there will be a special celebratory day for
old right-wing racists like you and you'll be able to march along with
your buddies with special pride.

Hey Harry. You think there's going to be any white nominated for a BET award this year?

Dunno...don't watch and have no interest in award shows.

Its sad that we're going to end up with Affirmative Action For the
Oscar Academy. Next year, when, amazingly, several blacks will be
nominated, we will all have a mental note attached to their name that
says "I wonder if they were part of the Token Minority category that
voters were required to choose from."

Or, maybe there will be new categories in the awards show, "Best Black
Director," or "Best Movie By Blacks Stereotyping Black Relationships."
Maybe "50 Shades of Black" will get an Oscar next year!

I heard a few hollywood types say that maybe those movies just sucked.

I never understood what it took to win an oscar anyway since I
couldn't stand most of the movies that win the 4 main prizes.
The general public seems to agree because good number of them tank at
the box office.

Its a crazy process, and the voters are all Directors, Producers and
Actors (and associated Important People in the industry).

Here's how films become eligible:

"In order to submit a film for nomination, a movie's producer or
distributor must sign and submit an “Official Screen Credits” in early
December. That's not just a full list of credits; you need proof that
the film meets certain criteria: In order to be eligible, the film must
be over 40 minutes in length; must be publicly screened for paid
admission in Los Angeles County (with the name of a particular theater
where it screened included); and must screen for a qualifying run of at
least seven straight days. In addition, the film cannot have its
premiere outside of a theatrical run—screening a film for the first time
on television or the Internet, for example, renders the film ineligible."

From there, its up to the Academy members to pick their favorite
films, songs, cartoons and actors.

And once again, the McDonald's argument from you. :) Just because
McDonald's sells the most burgers doesn't mean the burgers are the best
or even among the best. Box office success is not necessarily among the
criteria for an Academy Award.

'Concussion' was the best movie I've seen in a long time. Will Smith was spectacular.

To me the whole thing is a gigantic mutual admiration society.
