Have you ever considered therapy to get to the root of the problems? Perhaps I am reacting to the hate, division, fear-mongering, racism, anti-abortionism, sexism, xenophobia, and anti-gay talk I see coming constantly from the GOP presidential wannabes and their congressional brothers and sisters, and many of the Republican governors. They just never seem to stop. I know many of them are "fighting" for the "evangelical" and "base" vote, but, crikey, if you have to be that hateful 24-7 to get those voters, you become just like them. You are allowing the beliefs and comments of a very few speak for the total GOP in your mind. You are super sensitized to this and automatically interpret everything you hear or see through that filter. Actually, I made that up. You'll just find and say anything possible to get a Democrat elected even if she may be headed for an indictment before she even gets started. :-) Whatever "the total GOP is," not much of it is vocally objecting to the horrific statements most of its candidates and many of its officeholders are making. They and not the so-called "mainstream Republicans" (whose numbers are rapidly diminishing) speak for the party these days. As for Mrs. Clinton, I don't see an indictment in her future, despite the fervent wishes of you and several others here. And, yes, I would far prefer to see her or Bernie elected than *any* of the Republicans seeking that office. You betcha. I'd take Bernie before Hillary and that's saying a lot. At least Bernie is honest. Hillary is ... you know ... Hillary. She keeps reinventing herself every two or three weeks trying to stop the bleeding. She'll say anything to prevent Bernie from stealing any more caucus and primary voters. |

Here, in DC, about 80% of black births are to unwed mothers. I know what you mean. Bill Cosby, with all his faults, made good points when talking to black men about taking responsibility for the babies they make. Very many don't. I can't imagine them being unaware of birth control. Sex education, including birth prevention, is taught in the public schools. In fact, it might be taught to the detriment of math and reading! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/1...n_2295395.html -- Ban idiots, not guns! |

It is things like this that advances the case for competition in the school system. If there were more options you could actually have sex ed in schools that was better targeted to the needs of the students. The parents who do not want anything but abstinence to be taught, probably have other problems with the curriculum and they could seek a different school while the mainstream schools could teach more about pregnancy avoidance which is what is needed in the places where unwed birth is the norm. I would make those drugs and devices free to anyone who thinks they need them. Again it is far cheaper than the alternative. I used an example of Washington DC, where about 80% of black babies are born to unwed mothers. The DC public schools teach contraception as part of its sex ed curriculum.
