I like unique firearms and this is one for the collection but also one
that I will also shoot and maybe use to hunt. They Steyr AUG is the
classic bullpup but this is more refined and easier on the eyes...

It's going to be interesting when someone breaks into Alex's tract
house, holds a gun to his wife/girlfriend's head, and gets Alex to load
those 45 guns into the back end of an SUV. Hope someone forwards the

American Rifleman did a segment on how the French have embraced the

markings under the wood on the receivers. Some were selective fire.

Based upon limited observations, I would say the Mini 14 is
significantly more reliable than many of the similarly priced "AR15"
type rifles I see at the range. The Colt and other medium to high end
ARs are reliable, but some of the el cheapos seem to have issues with
feeding from standard polymer magazines and jamming generally. The Mini
14s seem to fire just about every time with no issues. It is worth
pointing out, though, that a small percentage of the jams I've seen at
the outdoor range are with the ****ty Russian "steel cased" ammo.

It might be because the russian ammo is so dirty.
I was around in the ordinance biz when they were having all of the
M-16 problems and a lot of it was powder selection, along with the
lack of a chrome lined barrel. The short term fix was just using a
cleaner powder and teaching GIs how to clean the gun.

The Mini-14 is a great gun and one I have on my list for the future. I
have two AR-15's and a Ruger bolt-action .223 so I have plenty of .223

The only time I ever even looked hard at a .223 it was a selective
fire, stainless Mini with a stainless scope and some real pretty wood.
It didn't last long. I went with the M1A for a whole lot less money.

I still prefer the Ruger Mini-14.

The Mini-14 is a great gun and one I have on my list for the future. I
have two AR-15's and a Ruger bolt-action .223 so I have plenty of .223
options.

The only time I ever even looked hard at a .223 it was a selective
fire, stainless Mini with a stainless scope and some real pretty wood.
It didn't last long. I went with the M1A for a whole lot less money.

Was it the scope? When I look, the M1A runs around $1400 the Mini 14 stainless around
$800.

You missed the "selective fire" part

Gotcha.

Just picked up an Interarms Mark X "mini-mauser" .223 with a nice scope. It's in like-new condition. Can't wait to get it to the range.

Cool gun!

Did you get this one?

That *is* a cool gun. Please let us know how you like it on the range. It may have to replace my mini-14 on the wish list.

That's close, but this one has no checkering, the stock is a really nice "zebra" wood, and the forward stock has a darker wood end cap. I'll try to get a pic or two and post it.
