Active Shooter - What to Do

The latest 'Weekly Update' from Fairfax County, VA:

Whether it’s an incident like Wednesday’s shooting in San Bernardino, Calif., or you
are in the checkout line at the mall or drafting an email in your cubicle – what
would you do if you heard gun shots and realized an active shooter was nearby?

Just like in any other emergency situation, the best thing you can do is to be
prepared with information on what to do next.

Take a few minutes to review the three options that will help you to quickly
determine how to protect yourself.

Run
If there is an escape route, attempt to evacuate.

Leave your belongings behind.
Follow instructions of responding emergency personnel.

Hide
Hide in an area out of the active shooter’s view.

Block entry to your hiding place and lock the doors.
Send a text message to 9-1-1 if you’re able, but ensure your safety first.

Fight

As a last resort and only when life is in imminent danger.

Attempt to incapacitate the active shooter.
Act with physical aggression and throw items at the active shooter.

If you can't run, and you can't hide, then attempt to incapacitate the shooter. How?
I'd suggest shooting the son of a bitch.

Of course, the liberals would rather you point at him and go 'BANG'.

Ban idiots, not guns!

Fortunately for everyone, you don't carry, because if you did with your
infirmities, you'd end up shooting innocent bystanders.

ISIS maybe? If I can't run and can't hide, and I'm armed, you'd best believe I'd
shoot. Hit a bystander, as Krause says...well, what the hell is the active shooter

That is typical northeastern liberal thinking. There is a bill working
it's way through the Florida legislature strengthening the Stand Your
Ground Law.
There are sheriffs encouraging people to carry if they have the
license in light of these terrorists.

BTW the "fight if you have to" plan is becoming more popular with
programs like ALICE. The fight plan includes causing a chose and
throwing everything you can find at the shooter

I seem to remember someone here suggesting that and being ridiculed

I don't know how you can consider being careful of what you say in
social media and other Internet forums as being "typical northeastern
liberal thinking". The issue is nation-wide.

Sheriffs encouraging people to carry is one thing. I don't think they
are promoting that you advertise that you carry and that you'd shoot
someone with it.

I think it's better for criminals and terrorists to have to guess who
is armed and who is not. For that reason I wouldn't advocate "open
carry". Let them guess.

I am not paranoid enough to think I am being watched all the time and
I have no problem with them knowing that I understand my rights (which
are different here than they are there)
I do understand the responsibility of carrying a gun and that you are
probably guilty until proved innocent if you have to shoot someone.
That is the thrust of the CCW classes here. It is 90%, legal
ramifications and only about 10% tactical. I have sat through the
course a number of times. It is free at a gun show if you don't need
the certificate and they usually run back to back all day. Typically
it is taught by a cop.

Sheriffs encouraging people to carry is one thing. I don't think they

The real impetus for "open carry" here is to blunt the chances of
being charged if someone gets a peek at a concealed weapon.
I think that if they just softened up on that, we would not need an
open carry law. I doubt many people actually want one "hanging low".

Whether it’s an incident like Wednesday’s shooting in San Bernardino,
Calif., or you
are in the checkout line at the mall or drafting an email in your
cubicle – what
would you do if you heard gun shots and realized an active shooter was
nearby?

Just like in any other emergency situation, the best thing you can do
is to be
prepared with information on what to do next.

Take a few minutes to review the three options that will help you to
quickly
determine how to protect yourself.

Run
If there is an escape route, attempt to evacuate.

Leave your belongings behind.
Follow instructions of responding emergency personnel.

Hide
Hide in an area out of the active shooter’s view.

Block entry to your hiding place and lock the doors.
Send a text message to 9-1-1 if you’re able, but ensure your safety
first.

Fight

As a last resort and only when life is in imminent danger.

Attempt to incapacitate the active shooter.
Act with physical aggression and throw items at the active shooter.

If you can't run, and you can't hide, then attempt to incapacitate the
shooter. How?

I'd suggest shooting the son of a bitch.

Comments like that made on the Internet are probably left unsaid.
You may find yourself on somebody's "watch list".

I would like anyone thinking of shooting up a bunch of folks to consider that a lot
of those folks may be carrying and not afraid to shoot back.

Ban idiots, not guns!

But one of them might be you...no worries.

Yup, I think shooting back would have been very appropriate in San Bernardino and in
Paris, to name just a couple.
