I'm sure you've gotten in your share of long days in the saddle with that thing. Right? -- Ban idiots, not guns! I haven't taken what would be considered a *long* motorcycle ride since the 1960s, when I drove my Honda from Milford, Connecticut, to Kansas, around 1250 miles if memory serves, but I took five or six days to do it, because I was taking a bunch of short side trips off the main route. It was a "fun" ride for me. The longest rides I've taken in recent years were under 250 miles. Spending all day on a motorcycle has no more appeal to me than spending the night in a towable motel room after driving all day in a pick-me-up truck towing it. So what 249 mile rides have you done on that Ducati? -- I didn't say they were 249 mile rides, I said they were under 250 miles. I've ridden to Virginia Beach, Dover, Ocean City, Purcellville, and a few other places. I prefer state highways, whenever possible, to the big interstates. Lower speeds, usually less traffic, fewer big trucks, et cetera. On the Ducati? Or in the 4Runner? -- The 4Runner is moving on after 225,000 mostly carefree miles. For the last year, I've only been using it "locally" to pick up bags of mulch, or to take trashbags up to the dump. It's still in good shape, considering its age and mileage, and we're donating it to a good cause. How the heck did you put more than 225 thousand miles on that vehicle? You have often stated how you prefer to take public transportation and you don't drive anywhere for trips, etc. Last I knew you had a Ford Ranger "Splash" or whatever they were called. My truck is almost 8 model years old (2008) and it has just over 33,000 miles on it. We had a "SplashTruck" in the 1990s. Traded it in later in that decade for an F150 to tow a bigger boat. Kept that until 2000 when we got a Toyota Tundra, and traded that in in 2003 for the 4Runner. I don't know how the hell we racked up so many miles on the 4Runner. We did take a few long trips with it, but not that many. My wife got a new car in May and it still has less than 3000 miles on it. Go figure. |

I think it is a really bad idea for religiously simple minded people to hold high political office in this country. I don't want someone in the White House who denies science and thinks the bible and all its craziness should be taken literally and applied to the commonweal. |

I have averaged about 2100 miles a year on my Prelude in the last 14 years since I retired from the inspecting biz. Half of that is the 3 or 4 trips I take to Tampa a year to fish and play golf. If they would put a cart path on the side of 41 for the mile or so to the Publix,Ace complex, I would lose the car and just use the truck (that actually gets driven less). |
