What is the over/under?

Gas prices next Labor Day?

If it is less than $3.509, I want the over.
I think the Saudis are teeing us up for a hit, right before the
election, to assure the win for the neo-cons who will keep fighting
their wars for them.

Right now they are happy, simply killing Keystone, clean coal,
fracking and alternate energy with their cheap oil.

They have demonstrated that they are willing to shut off the tap if it
benefits them or punishes someone they are ****ed at.

As a member of the "investor class," don't those high prices trickle
down to you through your stocks? :)

Absolutely. Companies plan profits, based on their revenue so if
expenses are higher, the profit is higher as soon as prices catch up.
These days that happens rapidly on oil, if by no other way in the
delivery charge or the fuel surcharge.

I do find it interesting that when oil is high, they blame a bad
economy on the price of oil and when oil prices are low they say low
oil price is the result of the bad economy.

When oil is high Harry blames it on greedy speculators because that's
the party line and everyone loves a conspiracy.

Well, for the most part Harry is full of ****. I keep wondering what the part is that
isn't.

Maybe that is what this is.
We can all be speculators.
How about a "price is right" bet?
Closest without going over.
Five bucks a play, anyone who plays gets a shot at the pot.

I have five bucks on $3.595 (to avoid the push)

Depends on the state. Cheapest in this area is about $2.70 now.

Filled up wife's car yesterday...16 gallons at $2.12 a gallon, less the
90 cents a gallon accrued from purchases at grocery store...$1.22 a
gallon, net. Felt like old times. :)

I've seen $1.95 here.
Did you know that there will be no SS COLA raises this year? Why, you
ask? Not because of food or housing costs which continue to rise, but
because gas prices are so low. Thank you O"Bama administration.

You sure do know how to squeeze a penny. Maybe the next administration
will bring us some relief so that we don't have to pinch pennies so hard.

The bet is what it will be next labor day and we will use the AAA
national average. I understand California is more expensive ...
Probably just because they can.

I store my boat at the county fairgrounds. They raised the price 30% this
year claiming inflation. New fair manager, that must make a bonus on
profits.

According to the government there is no inflation. That is why we are
not getting a SS COLA but the health insurance (Medicare) is going up.

Orwell had a name for this kind of speech.

I haven't been following the SS COLA, but I do know there are many
factors that determine whether there is or is not a COLA adjustment. I'm
surprised you applied for SS, actually, because, after all, it is a
socialist program.

I paid about $400k into that socialist program. That would make a very
nice annuity.

I paid for it, I am taking it while it is still there.
I suspect that soon they will decide I am too rich and take it away.
They already tax my "after tax" SS benefits.
I am paying double taxes.

It is interesting that the government is saying there is no inflation,
then they raise the price for Medicare ... in the same agency.

I understand that like most government economic numbers "inflation" is
driven by politics, more than economics. The CPI is a fantasy not a
fact based statistic.
As long as the fed is keeping the interest rate at zero, they need to
have the government pretend there is no inflation.
It is like when they include money they print out of thin air as part
of the GDP.
The outrageous one is when they pretend they are servicing the debt
with borrowed money and that is ludicrous enough but that money was
actually not even borrowed, it was just printed. (AKA "Quantitative
Easing")
I guess you need a degree in "fantasy" to come up with a name like
that.
