Surprised the manufacturer didn't include the required Allen wrench with
the rail adapter.

Sure you didn't miss it in the packaging?




No...it was well-packaged and it wasn't there...or mentioned in the
enclosed instruction sheet. Just about every other gun "bit" I've bought
in the last few years that included very small allen screws included an
allen key. This wasn't a cheap, "Chinese" item, either.

I bet the .50c wrench was.


Probably, but I can't see any markings on it, and there weren't any in
the bin in the store.

No, Bilious... 1/16" is the right size. The local hardware store had two
drawers of loose allen wrenches, "inch" and "metric."

That was a standard allen in the IBM kit along with one that was 1mm
and one even smaller than that.. It was for a #2 set screw, you
usually had to grind down a fresh end each time you used it because
they rounded out so easy. They used some tiny stuff in the original
lap tops. Guys were taking them apart under those 5" magnifiers with
the circle light tubes around them.

Not all Chinese manufactured items are junk. When we put our pool in 8
years ago and built a cabana, my wife bought an outdoor "bar" type setup
that included a granite topped table to sit at and five tall "bar"
chairs with backs. The table and chairs are made of anodized aluminum
that had to be assembled. The many screws that hold it together are
installed in welded nuts in the frames of the table and chairs. When I
prepared to put it all together I expected the worst ... especially when
a welded nut location can't be held to the same precision as a CNC
controlled threaded hole.

To my amazement, everything lined up perfectly. Nothing was off. Don't
know how they did it but it was well thought out and manufactured.

Eight years later, it still looks like new, even after sitting out in
the snow of winter and the hot days of summer.

My guess is they have a jig that they use to hold the nuts while they
are being welded and then they take the bolts out.

a 2mm would be a bit bigger than a 1/16" so I doubt it would work
1.5mm would be too small

They made our metric screws and tools blue so we would not mix them
up. You were certainly not "eyeballing them when they get this small
and use the wrong one, it ain't coming apart.

That's what happens when you buy that cheap, non-union Chinese stuff -
slave labor you know. :-)

PS, make sure you use some Loctite on those allen screws. They take
quite a pounding and frequently loosen up.


Now he'll have to beg his "wife" for $2 to get one at the hardware
store. Fortunately he has nothing else to do. I'm sure a picture of
the hex key will be posted here soon.
