Yes Stinky, seems that simply spraying the windshield with the hose doesn't perfectly clean it. Add road dirt and dust from the last kilometer into the park launch area and my windshield was noticeably dirty.

"My windshield is glass. Went out to Grand Lake yesterday and could
hardly see through it due to dust & dirt and residue from salt water

wet it in the lake and then wiped the windshield. Much better but I'll
have to start carrying some mild window cleaner with me."

I've thought about that. Most are a bit out of the way and would add a couple of hours to the trip.

That is a great thing about living 3 miles up a brackish river, I get
a free flush fiord about half the year.
Right now there is more salt in my well than the river.

Salty drinking water? Do you filter it out?

He needs a bucket for both wash down and for peeing in. I carry an old
antifreeze jug which I cut out an section. Leaves a nice handle. Then you
can dip water and wash off the window with lots of water before using a
sponge or rag to clean it up. And when you have to pee. You do not have to
hang with t over the side and possible fall in and drown. Lots of drown
fisherman are found with the zipper down.

That was just "for" before the spell checker "helped me out"

You are right, this is far from a fjord. I was thinking about putting
a sign at the mouth that says "caution Local knowledge is advised
beyond this point"

That is true. In the late winter and spring the salinity runs more
like 16-20 PPT. It was .0.27 last Monday. (270 PPM)
If I didn't have the new YSI probes, it would have been below the
level of measurement. with a hydrometer we used to use.

There would be no need for that if you had a quality boat. You spend
more on boat depreciation than I spend on firearm investments. My boats
cost me very little but they aren't falling apart.

Well I already have one 12 gallon Moeler tank from when I had my pontoon to go in the boat, and in thinking on another.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004AP...QH5MY4H VH037

With the dual batteries, and full tanks that's a lot of weight to the aft, so I'm thinking on placing the batteries up front. Longer cables but whatever.
Should I tie the tanks together and draw from both at the same time for even weight distribution or use them separately?

There are great deals on long battery cables on eBay.

I would say draw from both but make sure they are both empty, or treated
with Stabil, at the end of the season or you will have bad gas in two
tanks. Will you be able to easily see how much fuel you have?

Oh no planning on running it this year. Too late, too cool, and too busy.
I'd like to run both tied together but no girl guage and can't see through the tanks, so no reserve. However I also have a standard 6 gal I can tuck in as a spare for 'reserve' I guess.

24 gallons is a lot of gas. Do you think you would ever come close to
burning that much in a day? I have a hard time burning 20 gallons in
the 500ci Caddy on the skinny water boat in a day and it loves gas! I
have only had to grab the spare can once and it's a 30 gallon tank.

Well, these things are thirsty and get maybe 3-4 mpg. If the Wabash river is up you can go a hundred river miles and rarely see any kind of a fuel dock. And even so, to find good quality non alcohol fuel can be a problem. so...

I guess...we're still paying a hair over a buck for regular self pumped gas.. On my 2 hr cruises I run the revs up between 4k and 5k whenever the water is smooth enough to do so. Couldn't burn enough gas so I'll remove as much as I can before half filling with fresh new gas for 7 month sleep.

87 octane can be found anywhere from $2.03 to $2.11 around here.
Lowest I've seen it in many years.

Heating oil has also dropped dramatically. We have two, 300 gal
tanks and one 275 gal tank. My wife called to get oil a week ago
and the guy she orders from recommended holding off from completely
filling the tanks for a bit. He said the prices are going to
come down even more. She left it with him to determine when he
thinks the price has bottomed, then come and top off the tanks.

Big news around here was the surprise announcement (2 days ago) that the
only operating nuke power plant in Massachusetts is to be shut down
by 2019. In reality, it will more likely be shut down in 2017, before
the next refueling requirement. It was issued a new, 20 year operating
license in 2014, so it's shut down came as a surprise to employees and
surrounding town's officials.

Cheap natural gas was cited as one of the many reasons for it's closure
although Massachusetts has to import all of it's natural gas via
pipelines from Canada.

Known as the "Pilgram" Power plant, it has been in operation since 1972.

My neighbor is an engineer at the plant and has been there since the
early 1980's. I was talking to him yesterday about the closing and
learned the reasons are far more complex than just cheap natural gas.

I don't cruise in that boat. We just move for maybe a 1/2 hour at a
time looking for hidden fishing honey holes boats with submerged
propellers can't reach. If I were to stay in an open canal I'm sure I'd
be burning at least 30 GPH. It's a fun boat but hardly fuel efficient.

There are great deals on long battery cables on eBay.

I would say draw from both but make sure they are both empty, or treated
with Stabil, at the end of the season or you will have bad gas in two
tanks. Will you be able to easily see how much fuel you have?

..........
Oh no planning on running it this year. Too late, too cool, and too
busy.
I'd like to run both tied together but no girl guage and can't see
through the tanks, so no reserve. However I also have a standard 6 gal
I can tuck in as a spare for 'reserve' I guess.

Heh. The Egg Harbor I had burned about 35 gallons per *hour* of diesel
fuel at cruise speed. The Navigator was a fuel miser, only burning 28
gallons per hour at cruise.

"My nasty old beater looks better to me every time I read a thread like
this ;-)"

I guess...we're still paying a hair over a buck for regular self pumped gas. On my 2 hr cruises I run the revs up between 4k and 5k whenever the water is smooth enough to do so. Couldn't burn enough gas so I'll remove as much as I can before half filling with fresh new gas for 7 month sleep.

It's time to sell the rotting boat and rent just boats if you use it
that infrequently.

Buck a liter, that is close to $4 a gallon. I paid $2.07 when I filled
my cans but it is up to $2.14 now. Glad I jumped on it when I did.

.......

2.19 here

87 octane can be found anywhere from $2.03 to $2.11 around here.
Lowest I've seen it in many years.

Heating oil has also dropped dramatically. We have two, 300 gal
tanks and one 275 gal tank. My wife called to get oil a week ago
and the guy she orders from recommended holding off from completely
filling the tanks for a bit. He said the prices are going to
come down even more. She left it with him to determine when he
thinks the price has bottomed, then come and top off the tanks.

Nice guy - if he's right. I've been looking into buying crude oil. It's
very low and $100 will come again soon.
