Did you get the shot gun for personal security or for the occassional
shark/python/gator?

I've never felt the need to carry a gun on the boat in the US, and
carrying one internationally opens up a whole can of worms clearing in
and out of customs. There are guys in Mexico doing long jail time for
even minor infractions plus their boats were seized.
