I ran the Krausers on my r100gspd then switched over to the toploader 40 liter Caribou luggage. They use the pelican boxes with a quick disconnect system
Heading back up to AK in June with a stop in Dawson city Yukon for the Dust to Dawson (D2D) solstice party. That should put my BMW at over 200.000 miles

Its taken me two Guzzis to get to the 200,000 mile marker. I got my first Guzzi when
my brother went into the Navy. Bought it from him. I've never had a Beemer, but I've
often thought of it!

But then I'd have to get a new wardrobe!

That Caribou luggage looks pretty good on a Guzzi too.

Yes, but mine are the toploaders Roger at Caribou luggage does a bang up job, they are a bit heavier than the Krauser system.

My BMW has been a faithful companion thruout the years, but not without problems, I burned the valves out after crossing the Andes into Argintina, Lost a driveshaft, broken subframe, and torched multipe rotors, (stators)all to be expected though.

I will not buy another new BMW as the problems seem endless, but am in the market.
On the top of my list is the Yamaha Super Tenere

Clutches and u-joints were the problems with my first Guzzi, an 850T. With this new
one, '89 Mille GT, I've had only to replace the u-joint once and put new seals in the
rear end. But, with less than 70,000 miles on it, it's still a baby.

I'd not buy another Guzzi. Don't like the designs and don't think I could fix it when
it broke. My nearest Guzzi dealer is up in Baltimore (I'm in Alexandria, VA). I used
him for the rear seal replacement, which were leaking again within a month. Won't go
back.

If I were to buy another, I'd probably look for a Honda ST1300 in good shape. But I
figure this one will last me 'til I don't need one anymore. Then maybe a Honda
Silverwing might be a good choice.

Haven't done any riding in the Andes, although we did a lot in the Alps. I'm sure the
roads were much better in Europe!

My guzzi ambassador wasn't the fastest thing in the world WOT was in the Low 70mph. I haven't researched it but I'm thinking it had side hack gearing. The claim is that the top end was normally in the high 90mph range. It didn't matter to me. When I'd hit the 4 lane I'd WOT and let it hammer away, usually and according to the veglia speedo, about 73 was the top mph.

Problem these days with new motorcycles is the power. Talking to my
daughters neighbor last weekend. He said his buddy, a chief Master Sargent
told him they are losing more soldiers from motorcycle deaths than from
combat. They figure they are immortal after returning from the Middle East
and buy a new bike. And off the showroom floor these days you buy 170+ mph
bikes for a couple hundred down.

You think you are any less dead in a 100 mph motorcycle crash, eh?

Dead is dead. But a lot easier to get dead on a bike with 3 times the
power of that 100 mph bike. My 350 Kawasaki rotary valve did 90. Took a
while to get there. Unlike it's big brother the 3 cylinder version. That
would go from 0-120 and never get the front wheel on the ground.

I don't know if it was possible to get side hack gearing on an Ambassador. Wouldn't
surprise me though. Did it have any of the other mods indicating sidecar attachment?

That's been true for quite a while. When I was in Germany, in the late '80's, the
young soldiers could buy a Kawasaki crotch rocket for very little down. They'd go
well over 150mph then.

I hunk the showroom ones now are 200 mph death traps.
