You mean it isn't a Mosin Nagant? http://tinyurl.com/kzbou34 What a disappointment! Not. :) Actually, she's a Henry lever action carbine in .357 MAG/.38 Special, a new, non-brass receiver model Henry started manufacturing this year. I always liked the looks of the brass Henry rifles, but at nine pounds, thought they were too heavy for my intended uses. This one, with the steel receiver and round 20" barrel, tips my postal scale at six pounds, eleven ounces, just a bit more than the 1892 Winchester clone I recently sold, and it ejects shells from the side, which means I can easily mount a scope on top. The Win clone ejected from the top, making scope mounting a pain in the ass. I was at the 50-yard indoor range this morning and was pleased to see my new "steelie" Henry and I could easily shoot 1" groups at that distance using my special cheapie shooting eyeglasses. I think I'll be able to do close to that at 100 yards, once I get to the outdoor range on a nice day. If I can handle that distance with my shooting glasses, I might not bother with a scope. We'll see. Or not see. Oh, and like the brass Henry rifles, this one is beautifully finished. The wood is remarkable, actually, walnut, and perfectly fitted to the receiver, and the lever is as smooth as it can be, right out of the box. I'm still not used to dropping rounds down the loading tube...my Win 92 had a loading gate, but it isn't an issue for me. As always, have nice day. :) |
