Doomsday Clock

Greg just mentioned the Doomsday Clock. I was curious, so I looked up
some history about it.

The Doomsday Clock was established 68 years ago in 1947 with the time
set to 7 minutes before midnight (Doomsday).

The closest to midnight it has ever been was 2 minutes back in 1953 when
the USA and the Soviet Union both tested thermonuclear bombs.

The furthest from midnight was 17 minutes in 1991 when the Soviet Union
collapsed.

Right now it's at 3 minutes before midnight.

In the fall, you can push it back an hour.

Yeah they think the land was vacant when they started piling in from
Europe in the 40s.
All you have to do is look at any map from before WWII to see
Palestine, right where Israel is now.
The "Israelis" are the ones who simply made up a name (actually dug it
out of genesis) and conquered the land for a country reprising the
4000 year old tradition.

It is sort of like the 20th century tradition of Germany conquering
half of Europe, twice, just for old time's sake.

Oh, you boys are talking *modern* history. Sorry, the history I studied
goes back a bit farther...to a mention of Israel in least the 13th
Century BCE with the Merneptah stele, and the word was in existence
before then to refer to the land of the people of Moses, who may have
lived several centuries earlier.

This predates the ancient Greek and Roman use of a form of the word
Palestine by nearly 1000 years.

Land typically belongs to the people who stayed there, not the ones
who moved 1000 miles away to start a life as Europeans.
I doubt I have any land claims in the area around York UK or Ireland
and my people only left about 150-175 years ago.
BTW do you think there is a chance that the "Israel" reference was
inserted later by european historians, like the idea that Jesus was a
white blond haired guy.

Naw. A reputable writer on the era is Paula McNutt, an archeologist who
teaches at a Catholic university. She's considered an expert.

Is she 3500 years old? If not, she is just reading what other people
wrote. As Voltaire said, "History is the lie everyone agrees on".

I really don't care. If the US will just get the hell out of there and
let the big dog eat, let them. My only concern is how much blood and
treasure we should spend there.
I say NONE.
It is not our business.
The Israelis have attacked us, the Palestinians never did.

Snerk. Right, 'cause history is all fake. Thanks for the laughs.

Any history that gives 20th century Europeans a "right to return" to a
place they can not trace their ancestry back to, simply because of the
brand of religion their grandmother chose is FAKE

It wasn't history that created the right of return. D'oh.

It was that religion "fairy tale" that you say is fake

Israel has a Law of Return. It isn't biblical.
