After 40 rounds through the Mosin Nagant this morning, I can honestly
say it kicks worse than any other rifle I've fired. But, I can't
complain about its accuracy. I can say that the sights are hard, for
me, to see. I may try putting a dab of white paint on the front sight.
Any suggestions?

Yeah, there is a bit of recoil with the Mosin but it is still fun to
shoot. I am thinking I would like to get a rubberized butt end to help
with the recoil.

What surprised me was my sons Romanian AK-47, it has way more recoil
than my Mosin even though it (the AK) shoots the smaller 7.62 x 39
round.

It was loads of fun to shoot. Next time I'll take my computer glasses
which will give me a much better view of the sights.

I gave son-in-law his Mosin Nagant Christmas present today. He was
surprised as hell and absolutely loved the rifle. He has an outdoor
range out where they live, so he should be able to shoot at some
distance. He'll let me know how it goes. It could well be that
shooting outside would give a better view of the sights than shooting
in an indoor range with one over head bulb.

Loogy must have got out of jail !!

Josh Smith January 2nd 15 02:21 AM

Hello,

Mosins generally have more perceived recoil due to their shorter length-of-pull (LOP).

The tendency is to hold the butt slightly off the shoulder and upon firing, the entire rifle slams backwards against the shoulder.

Snugging it up against your shoulder helps a lot. If you put 1/2" to 1" of recoil pad (whether it be hard rubber, soft rubber, or even a wood extension!) on the rear of the rifle, your body will absorb the recoil and it will feel no worse than the 7.62x51, .30-06, or 8x57mm rifles out there.

Regards,

Josh
