Not a good day on Interstate 95 today. I left Mt. Pleasant SC at 4 am
thinking I might be able to make it back home in a day. It's almost
17 hours by my GPS. Thought I might make it by about 9 pm.

The morning was fine but by the time I hit Virginia there were massive
log jams of traffic and delays due to numerous accidents. Pushed on to
Maryland but traffic was still heavy and slow. I started to envision
what going through New York would be like and threw in the towel. Got a
hotel room for the night. I'll leave again early in the morning to beat
the weekend rush over the GW Bridge.

Some pretty fast trains running from MA to SC.
Then rent a car.
Might cost more, but traffic jams are a real pain.

Saturday on the GWB shouldn't be that bad, and mostly westbound. The
big rush is eastbound on late Sunday.

We usually go that way. It adds about 100 miles but avoids all of the
metro DC delays. The truck traffic on 81 can be pretty oppressive
however, especially with two trucks racing each other uphill at 45
mph. They should really arrest some of those characters.
