Over 700 lbs. Tim. Big feesh!

Are they natural or an invasive? And more importantly, how do they taste?
They are protected but they probably taste like grouper.

I have had Grouper I think in Florida.. is it usually an eatin' fish?

Grouper are good eating fish but the reds can be a bit wormy if that
bothers you. Most people never notice particularly when they are
cooked (little black specks people do not notice)
The blacks are better. The "Goliath" (AKA Jewfish) is still a grouper
but a huge one. Personally I think the small ones taste the better.

Seems like that's true for most fish. I'd much rather catch a 20"
striper, for eating, than a 35"er. That's especially true for catfish.

Better catch up with the regs Sheriff. Minimum length in Virginia is 28
inches except for "Trophy Season" when it is 32 inches.

My striper fishing was in Maryland.

Thanks for watching my back though. You make a great deputy, Deputy.

Mmmmm...reminds me of the Bob Marley song also performed by Eric Clapton..
I Shot the Sheriff (but did not shoot the
deputy)

Wayne, what kind of a boat was it? Twin diesel? And how far out did you go?

===

The boat was a 43 footer powered by a single diesel (Detroit 8-92
Natural) and it had a 10 kw Northern Lights gen set. It had been
converted from a crabber and was very spartan and utilitarian. There
was a long overhang over the cockpit which gave good protection from
the sun, and a small pilot house on the top deck.

At our farthest point I'd estimate we were 40 to 45 miles west of Key
West.
