One of my Texas buddies...

....in fact, my only Texas buddy (we were buddies in NE Florida, and we
both moved), says to me, "So, why are you messing around with AR rifles?
Are you expecting Ebola-contaminated Muslims to cross into Maryland from
Mexico?"

That's apparently the latest conspiracy the righties in Texas are
spreading, according to my buddy...disease-carrying Muslims are walking
into Texas from Mexico, dropping copies of the koran as they go.

I hadn't thought of that. Ebola-contaminated Muslims, crossing from
Mexico into Maryland.

Actually, I'm "messing around" with AR rifles because, unlike most other
firearms, they're relatively easy to customize and "improve." Just about
any part can be swapped out for a part you like better, either for
functional or cosmetic purposes. The only "machine work" (and I use that
term loosely) I've had to do was shave down the front sight/gas block.

Has it occurred to you that you may be the only real gun nut here?

I do agree that Duncan Hunter is a little over the top with his claim
that ISIS is coming over the Mexican border., They are far more likely
to come in from Canada where the border is largely unsecured and
muslims walking around are fairly normal.

What's more rewarding that killing one and two liter sodapop bottles?

Picking them up and putting them in the trash

Certainly, after they are dead. We don't litter. One of my buddies
shoots empty 12 ounce beer and soda cans that he fills with red-colored
water. Hitting one of those from 25 yards with a pistol fired freehand
ain't easy.

That's precisely what we do at the "range." We gather up all the "dead"
soda bottles and cans, put them in separate bags, and toss them in the
appropriate recycle bins at the county "trash out," which is about five
miles away and on the way home.

If you live more than about 500 miles from the place where they
actually recycle the plastic, it is a wash environmentally.
Most of the plastic is burned in the waste to energy incinerator here,
whether it came from the trash stream or the recycle stream.
The only recycling that actually makes economic sense this far from
the recycler is metal.
Recyclers don't really want "dirty" bottles anyway like the ones I
find floating in the water.
I do wonder how Harry is picking up all the bits of plastic from the
bottles he explodes. I can see him getting the big pieces but it is
the little ones that are a danger to wildlife.

We have a couple of trash picker-uppers on site to grab the plastic,
paper and cans. One of our buddies collects and reloads the brass. I
don't use reloads, but some of the other guys do.

Our range does not allow exploding targets. Bottles count?

Our range is private and allows whatever we want. We don't shoot glass,
though. Too dangerous.

Must be a trashy range.
