Don, I had three Great-Uncles in that bloody mess, and several of their British and German "Cousins" on both my mom and dad's sides. Schnautz, Weidner, Sanshaffer, Price, Hyatt, and Graue -confirmed that I know of....

Canada came of age during that war..
Out of a population just under 8 million over 600,000 served and a tenth of those died and many more returned wounded in mind or body.
This city took a big hit with the Halifax Explosion when a munitions ship collided with another in the harbour.
I imagine there will be a substantial observation for that in 2017.

I'd hope we would have some great pomp and circumstance as well. I know in England in some places the entire male populace in various hamlets and villages marched off to war and none returned. At the Somme, death casualties were over 50,000 in one day.
