We're so ****ed up in this country, Public assistance can easily top $35,000 a year. That is more than 90% of the world makes, working. we don't even mandate a modest vacation with pay each year, as virtually every other modern, civilized nation does. Mostly the ones who are going broke. Do you really want us to emulate France and Italy? 1. What's "public assistance" amount to in your neck of the woods for a single mom with three dependent kids? 2. No, not "mostly the ones who are going broke." Most modern civilized nations have mandated paid vacation periods for private and public sector workers. No one has done more since the 1980s to **** over this country than the rich. I don't think anyone has a complaint about a single mom with three dependent kids collecting assistance. However, there should be (if there isn't already) a limit to how much assistance she receives based on the number of kids she has. Hold the fathers responsible and accountable. As far as vacations ... the government has no place mandating vacations in the private work sector. The USA is *not* Europe and to compare our work culture to European countries isn't meaningful. Every company I knew of during my working career included paid vacations for full time employees, BTW. There are many, many Europeans who have immigrated permanently to the USA or are here on long term green cards pursuing a career in the States. I know several and there's a reason they come here. As I stated, American corporations rule and they are intent on pushing workers back towards serfdom. |
