My favorite lake
For me this is where it's at. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlyle_Lake. There's bigger lakes like Shelbyville and Rend, but they have sand bars and Ndebele are further. This place is only 60 miles from me and IMO is the best.

Grand Lake is the biggest and deepest, but Porters Lake and Lake Charlotte, although long and somewhat narrow, are very pretty to boat on. My favourite lake in Nova Scotia has to be the Bras d'Or Lakes... about 130 road miles from here, or less by sea. |

I grew up spending my summers on Lake Ontario so that has always been memorable for me. It's very nice there for about 2 months of the summer but it can be cold and rough even then. We had islands about three miles out from shore that were slightly out of reach for the small craft that I had as a kid, and I always lusted after a boat big enough to safely make that trip. The islands would just dance out there, slightly out of reach, but on a clear day they looked close enough to touch. And of course once you finally do it, you aspirations and horizons move farther out. That has not yet stopped although we've managed to go to a lot of those places. |
