The local bars and taverns should rake in the bucks. Used to be neat to see all the different uniforms flooding the downtown. Now they all seem to dress in their civilian clothes...so as not to stand out, I guess. Some years ago in San Diego, I asked about that, because there were dozens of navy ships around, but very few guys in uniform. Bartender told me the navy guys dressed in civilian clothes when off duty so as to avoid fights with morons trying to prove their manhood by punching a military guy. Seems possible, but I don't know. Ask Flatulent Jim what he wore on navy shore leave after he finished up his duties dispensing soap and towels and rubdowns on his ship. |
