Way back in the 60's the Canadian Navy developed the 'Bear Trap' system to help land the old Sea Kings on our destroyer escorts.
Helicopter lowered a cable that was attached to a winch in the middle of the flight deck and the helo was slowly reeled in.

The two DE's I was stationed on in the Navy had been equipped with an
early, remotely flown "drone" helicopter known as "Dash". It was
intended for anti-submarine warfare but, being early in the remotely
controlled aircraft days, had a few problems not limited to taking off,
heading out and never seen again.

The program was dropped.

Don't recall if any Sea Kings were lost that way, although over the long 50 year service life many dropped out of the sky or were grounded because of various mechanical problems.
One was flying over my house for a couple of hours yesterday.
We have a base a few blocks away that is used for landings.

their imaging on Google Earth. After we returned from Cancun a few
years ago I took a look at the area where we stayed. In several
places construction sites had been replaced with architects depictions
of what the new resort was expected to look like. Even more
interesting, some of the jungle around the Chichen Itza pyramid site
has been deliberately obscured, apparently to prevent relic raiders
from using Google Earth as a guide. Certain high security areas in
the US have also been intentionally obscured, probably at government
request. There is nothing to indicate the change, just a blurred
image where you were expecting more detail.
