Reads like another example of man ruining animal habitat and then killing the few remaining hungry animals that remain. Simply a fact. It was even demonstrated in court but the government dropped the case before judgement so there was no precedent established. The state did import a number of Texas cougars right after that since the endangered designation wasn't true so creating a hybrid species was not an issue. The cats here are now part Texan insert Rick Perry joke here. That eliminated any chance that they could be an endangered species. I have no problem with protecting panther habitat but they seem to refuse to stay there and they are encroaching into areas that were settled 100+ years ago, simply because they have outgrown their habitat. We have the same issue with black bears. I imagine if you had a 100 pound cougar chasing your kids around the yard, you would be thinking about shooting one too. (or would you apologize for invading his space, throw him the kid you like the least and move?) Maybe we should send you a bunch of wild hogs and let you enjoy that little taste of nature. If I want to see wild hogs, I'll drive by walmart. -- If right-wing assholes could fly, rec.boats would be an airport! |

Well, why are you out in the country ruining habitat? Mountain Lions are fully protected in this state. No problem except they are not uncommon, kill most of the endangered mountain sheep, kill a few hikers, lots of lions. We have them around here. One once in a while travels near the grammar and middle schools. Do not fear man anymore. |

Then the question would be, if they were tearing up your yard and chasing you around, would you want someone to come kill them or would you just say you were encroaching on habitat and let them thrive We used to see them often beside the long, woods lined road that led to the house in Florida. We were warned that they were filthy and disease ridden and being attacked and gored by one was a very serious issue. Never saw them in our yard though. Just had alligators, rattlesnakes, coral snakes, and armadillos. Oh, and horses. Mrs.E got them when they were about 2-3 years old and that was 13 years ago. They'll probably out-live me. |
