Underway North Bound to the Carolinas, Chesapeake, NY, Connecticut and Beyond
We are finally headed north for the summer after a number of delays.
The dock lines were cast off at 0630 this morning and are currently docked at Roland Martin's Marina in Clewiston, FL. By tomorrow afternoon we should be on the east coast of Florida and headed north On the ICW (Intra Coastal Waterway). We'd hoped that conditions would be favorable for running outside on a straight line to Charleston, South Carolina but it looks like we'll have to wait for the wind to lighten up a bit - maybe later in the week on Tuesday or Wednesday. In Yellowstone, take the early morning game viewing trip in the restored cars. I doubt we will ever venture into the tourist areas of Yellowstone. The last time we were there we drove into one of the back entrances and hiked from there. We will be near one in the house where we are staying. And any big ticket items you need to buy? Montana sales tax rate is zero percent. |

C D's is okay, no better, but for Solomons, that makes it pretty decent. Most of the restaurants in that immediate area are either lousy or more into booze sales than food sales. The Ruddy Duck is one of those, with mediocre food and it is noisy. Several of the really good restaurants that used to be in Solomons have either closed or changed owners and then changed themselves and are no longer very good. There's a Chinese restaurant across from the Navy rec center that is or was pretty good for Southern Maryland, but that only makes it average, and it is overpriced. Stoney's is way way overpriced at all of its locations. Jerry's Place is the best bet for first-rate seafood on this side of Southern Maryland, but it's not for a carless boater visiting Solomons. Jerry is open on Sunday afternoons now, but closed on Mondays. Sometimes Jerry's has full-belly clams. Jerry himself is a trip, and so is his son. Never had anything less than a first-class meal at Jerry's, and we go frequently. The "specials" are worth ordering. -- If right-wing assholes could fly, rec.boats would be an airport! |
