They do good work there.
We're going to a bit of a fiasco with the restoration of our Bluenose II.
Millions in cost over runs and now because some gov't jackass decided to install an enormous heavy rudder to get US Coast Guard certification, a situation where it takes two crew to turn the ships wheel.
Shipyard is trying to work out a fix...maybe hydraulic assist.
What a mess...and pretty well all funded from taxpayer dollars.

Why would a Canadian vessel need USCG certification?

It makes a lot of "goodwill tours" down there.
Believe they talked about taking passengers aboard for a sail.

Just went back to a CBC article that says the heavy steel rudder was installed for a better classification with the American Bureau of Shipping. ABS

Sounds more like an insurance requirement as opposed to USCG.
