Building permit
 

Some have asked what I'm going to be doing in retirement. Well, I
applied for a building permit for a new house. It was going to be 100
ft. tall and
400 ft. wide, with 12 gun turrets at various heights, and windows all
over the place and a loud outside entertainment sound system that was
going to entertain the whole neighborhood. It would have parking for 200
cars, andI was going to paint it snot green with pink trim.

The City Council told me; “Forget it...IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!”

So, I sent in the application again, but this time I called it a 'Mosque'.

Work starts on Monday.

You seem to be among those who feels "intimidated" by Muslims.

We have an extended Muslim family living nearby. Patriarch, matriarch,
married children, grandkids, all in separate and very nice houses on a
small farm. I've been waving at them and saying hello for about 10
years, and they do the same. The patriarch has fruit trees on his
acreage and several "No Hunting" signs. Deer and other critters often
are on his property. He plants trees. What's not to like?

The patriarch, now retired, is a physician and was the head medical
honcho at our community hospital. He was, if memory serves, one of the
sponsors of the group of Muslims who built the mosque and library and
social center right across the street from the hospital.

Much of the money for the center came from Saddam Hussein when he was an
"ally" of the United States.

out some of the problems we have as a society and some of the ways in
which inequitable treatment or policies are imposed by our government,
but not from a racist's mindset. Didn't he say he's married to a minority?

You hear (or read) things in a very closed frame of mind. That's not
an opinion. That's a statement of fact.

Frankly, Richard, I find you insensitive to most of the overt racism and
other "hate" based upon race, ethnic origins, religion, sexism, et
cetera, expressed here. You're not one of the haters, but you give the
expressions of hate dumped here a pass.

I'm not a fan of organized religion, especially fundamentalist organized
religion, but not because of its "spirituality," whatever that is, but
because of its attempts to intrude in and control our legally
non-religious government and laws.

I am not an activist by any means but those who know me understand that
I don't accept or tolerate racism in any way, shape or form. One of the
few people that I have fired in my career was based upon demonstrated
overt racism.

That said, I also am a realist. There are problems in America with
regard to race relations. To side step, ignore or sweep under the rug
negative feelings that *any* group has for another doesn't solve or make
things better. Addressing issues honestly and accurately at least
establishes a point of reference where progress may be made by
intelligent, thinking people. I think that is all "amdx" has ever done
here. Your response to him was very different however.
