San Juan Islands itineray?

I've suddenly got a week to bareboat around the San Juans in August. Anybody have any
favorite places? Never been, probably leaving from Anacortes.

Its has been awhile, but good memories:

Sucia Island - beautiful anchorage
Hunter / Mud Bays - quiet anchorage
Rosario Resort - great restaurant
Fisherman Bay - interesting navigation into the entrance, difficult
anchorage
Friday Harbor - just because
Roche Harbor - upscale
Deer Harbor - good marina
Reid Harbor - nice anchorage
Matia Island - nice for a walk, strong current in the north bay

This is a busy time. The August long weekend will be the busiest.

You might think about a side trip to the Gulf Islands. Clear customs
at Bedwell Harbour. Clear back to the US at Friday or Roche.

Jack

A few mo

South end of Lopez Island - Aleck Bay, MacKaye Harbor
East side of Lopez Island - Spencer Spit, Hunter Bay
West side of San Juan Island - Garrison Bay for a history lesson
Shaw Island North - Blind Bay
Shaw Island South - Indian Cove
On Stuart Island I prefer Prevost Harbor over Reid Harbor, but both are
excellent.
On Sucia you can always find anchorage or a bouy in Echo Bay. In prime
season it's harder in other bays.
If you're interested in crabbing, Saddlebag Island (2.5 miles NE of
Anacortes) has great shallow areas with Dungeness crabs. Phone for
shellfish rules/dates.
If you get into Canada there are lots of great locations, but a week might
not be enough time.
Ganges, Chemainus, Nanaimo, Sidney, Victoria are the big town attractions.
I like to stay in Oak Bay and take the bus to Victoria.
For Chemainus, stay in Telegraph Harbor (Thetis Island) and take the ferry
to Chemainus for a day.
Winter Cove (Saturna Island) is a great little anchorage with a nice park to
walk in. Fun to watch the little boats squirt through Boat Passage with the
current in white water rapids.
Another fun destination is down Sanich Inlet to Brentwood Bay and visit
Butchart Gardens through the back entrance.
You can also clear Customs back into the US in Anacortes.

Just visited Port Townsend for the first time. Worth checking out.
