This is just to the north of the harbor I normally launch out of. In July, the ocean is 45' deep and calm at the reef break. |

I spent over 6 weeks working on a project in San Mateo back in 1988. Often drove over to Half Moon Bay to check out the scenery. |

We used to body surf waves twice that high at Barbars Point in Hawaii! Not twice that height, more like 6 to 8 feet high. I heard the north Shore in Hawaii was way to large to surf this week. http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/21/us/haw...her-big-waves/ |

The "professional" surfers are always traveling the world looking for wave events. Even 45 years ago in Hawaii the North Shore would attract lots of surfers when the wind and waves were up. |

No, I didn't do any of that. On the north shore of Kauai they were reporting 25+ ft.r's . And the beach there is a hard slope -the kind that lets the wave slap you right into the place, and if you're lucky it won't drag you out to roll you over again before it swallows you. It's not a good swimming place! |

It's not a good swimming place! How about fishing? Don't know, John. On both islands Oahu and Kauai, I saw guys with buckets of stuff on the beach. They had some pretty stout rods casting out into the ocean, but I didn't see anybody reeling anything in. I imagine the real fishing is further out. |
