Yes, John... Sending out pics of ocean beach, palm treas and green mountains. Temps in Hawaii were anywhere from 64 at 0500 to 78 at 1400. Romped on two islands, and swam in the ocean about every day.

I hated to leave, but after 13 hrs of flying I was ready to get home and hit the sack for a while. Man, what a blast!

BTW, I was hoping winter would have been over by the time I got home, but not so is the case...

oh well....

I've got a high school chum who is a physician in Australia and is
always nudging me to "come for a visit." I was there in the 1960's. I
liked it but the flight was just awful. Pre-9/11, though, at least you
could walk around the plane and stand up at the back of the plane with
the other long-legged guys and chat.

The only way I'd go back to Hawaii is to split up the flight...here to
the Left Coast, a night or two in San Francisco, and then to Hawaii.

A Chinese carrier recently received approval for non-stop flights from
Boston to Beijing. Can't imagine that.

I flew to Shanghai from Boston with a fuel stop in Seattle and Tokyo
Japan. It was snowing in Tokyo and our departure for Shanghai was
delayed for hours while all the departing planes were de-iced. Longest
flight I ever took. Total travel time was something like 36-38 hours.

What I meant John, is there's no snow or ice, or such foolishness to ruin a game. It may rain occasionally, but but almost no lightning. If it does rain, it's a shower that's unimpressive....

Dulles to LA to Seoul. Miserable. But the stewardesses on Korean Air were absolutely gorgeous, gave
free booze and sandwiches all night long, and made the flight a bit less miserable.

Apparently age and sex discrimination don't mean crap to Korean Air.

Easy solutions. Pack your guns and head over to Springfield Mall and
walk around its hallways for a few hours, or leave your guns at home and
head over to Tysons Corners mall and walk around its hallways for a few
hours. While you are there, you can stop in at the Apple Store and see
what a modern computer not running an obsolete operating system looks like.

On the way home, you can stop in for a low-cal meal at one of Virginia's
many first-rate pho shoppes.

We are going but stopping in Tahiti first. The airline pricing is getting
idiotic. In the 1980's I traveled business class a lot on overseas trips
to Asia and Australia. Was about a 50% boost over Coach. Last year the
trip to South Africa was $1700 for coach, SAA does have more room in coach,
and business was an extra $5700. Our trip we are planning to Tahiti, NZ,
and Cairnes was an extra $10000 for business over coach. And we are only
paying about $4000 for the flights now. At least the foreign carriers have
greater seat pitch.

The golf course in Poolesville, just across the river near White's ferry has night golf on a
regular basis. It is kind of fun but you really need to know the course so that you don't run
into a sand trap, stream or into a fence.

Harry' 'MS13' comments are bull****, as usual. He's got the ethnicity correct, but it wasn't MS13
that caused the decline in the mall - it was the increasing use of the mall as a hangout by illegal
immigrants who had no better place to go during the day. Many of the illegals around here rent a
room or bed by 'hot bunking'. They rent for 8 or 12 hours of the day, which means they have to leave
the house for the other 12 or 16 hours.

Any of the brand name hotels close to the Springfield Metro are 'safe' and decent places to stay. If
you go to Google maps, put in Springfield, VA, and then hotels/motels, you'll find a bunch of
places. Most likely they all have shuttles to the Springfield Metro.

Check your email.

hours. While you are there, you can stop in at the Apple Store and see
what a modern computer not running an obsolete operating system looks like.

On the way home, you can stop in for a low-cal meal at one of Virginia's
many first-rate pho shoppes.

Uh...

By now, Harry, you should have concluded that I have no interest in
following the "directions," "orders," "suggestions," "requests," et
cetera, you aim in my direction, and that I don't give a tinker's dam
about your opinions on matters political. You're not in charge here.

Couldn't resist.

I'd make a comment about the demise of Springfield Mall, but then you'd start your 'racist' crap, so
I won't. But we know what happened, don't we? (Wink, wink)

Springfield Mall hit the crapper in the early 80's when they did the expansion.

It started it's downward trend then, but it wasn't due to the expansion.

When they did the expanion they had a hard time filling up the 250 stalls. Nobody likes to
walk through a half empty mall except criminals.

They may have had a hard time, but all the stalls were full before we left for Germany in '87.
That's true as far as I can remember. We lived about three miles from the mall, so it was a favorite
place to go shopping.

BTW, John. When there is day time there is golf.

Who needs day time?

What I meant John, is there's no snow or ice, or such foolishness to ruin a game. It may rain occasionally, but but almost no lightning. If it does rain, it's a shower that's unimpressive....

Well, I've not seen a golf course in so long that I've broken the 190 mark. 194 last time I weighed.
I'm ****ed.

I have been to Springfield Mall about 3 times since about 1985. I lived just North of Ft.
Belvior on the West side of Rt 1.

I read an article a week or so ago that said the days of the big
indoor mall may be over.
The school board bought a big one here that never really took off and
made an office complex out of it.
They had no problem filling all the space with bureaucrats.

Must be a Geographic thing.. Our malls are always packed.

You were close to a lot of shopping. We lived on Newington Road, in Lorton (now it's in Springfield
according to Google Maps). The mall was about the closest thing to get to.

I lived on Wolford Way in Lorton for a couple of years in the late 80's. We liked to call
ourselves "Fairfax Station", which was on the other side of 95. Being associated with DC
prision wasn't quite the lady attractor that some have have thought.

My daughter lived down there for the first year or so of her marriage. They lived on the other side
of Pohick Rd. The DC prison grounds are now Laurel Hill Golf Course. Very nice course - and
expensive for a county course. I play there only when our local Greendale seniors can get an outing
there for about $45. Then it's a great deal.
