Things I can't understand

My buddy Rick who took over the retail side of the guitar shop has a
younger, 30 year old brother who got married a year ago. The brother's
new bride soon became pregnant and the baby was due right about now.

I got a call from Rick late Wednesday morning asking me if I could man
the shop for him and host the event in the performance space that evening.

His brother's wife went into labor and then something went wrong. She
suffered some type of embolism and despite the doctors' best efforts she
died. The baby was born and is healthy.

She was also 30 years old in in excellent health and physical condition.

Hard to get get your mind wrapped around things like this.

How awful for everyone. Just goes to show us how tenuous our grasp on
life is.

That brother will require lots of support. I hope he has enough family around to share the load

Damn, that sucks. Sorry to hear about it.

I am sure he will. They are a nice, very traditional Italian family. I
think the little girl will end up with lots of "mommys".

You can't... It still makes me shake to think of this. Some of you may
know we almost lost my wife during birth of our last daughter. I was in
the room with her as an artery got nicked, she lost her vision and began
to pass out from lack of blood before they cauterized the hole for the
third time... It all happens so fast, and you can never unsee it.

God Bless your friend and his family. I think they are probably pretty
lucky to know someone like yourself. I am sure you will make yourself
useful to them in the near and beyond.

Hard to comprehend always. Especially on a first baby, healthy mommy.

Ditto that, really awful and so unfair. Embolisms can take someone
literally in a heartbeat - happened to a boating friend of ours a few
years ago.
