Interesting. While stockpiling is a huge factor I still question the
figures they released for government use. Look at the TSA numbers, for
example, and explain that.

I understand "training purposes" but look at the numbers listed under
"operational purposes". Is the customs and border protection actually
firing 14.5 million rounds in day-to-day operations? That would be
40,000 per day. Maybe those are slipping away under the "fast and
furious campaign" right into Mexico.

The American Rifleman magazine/website is the official propaganda arm of
the NRA, also known as the gun manufacturers' lobby.

Most of the serious target shooters that I know are buying ammo in
quantity when ever they can find it. Another cause for the shortages
are the scalpers who are buying up the Walmart shipments at 6:00AM in
the morning and then reselling it for profit at gun shows. They start
hanging out at 4:30AM, borrow a chair from the sporting goods
department, and then wait for the new shipment to come out.
Everything is gone by a little after 7:00.

Our WalMart isn't getting enough to make sitting around worthwhile. The only thing they're getting
by the case is shotgun ammo, mostly 12 gauge, and some .223 rifle ammo. The pistol stuff comes in
drabs - two or three boxes (50 rd boxes) of two or three calibers at a time. But, if I happen to be
there and they happen to have a box or two of a caliber I shoot, I'll buy it. What the hell, it's
cheaper there than elsewhere!

If you make friends with the department manager he can usually tell
you when shipments of 9mm and 22LR are going to arrive and what time
you need to show up.

Juan and I are pretty good buds already. He is there at 7am, and whatever came in is behind his
counter. Very often it's nothing. Sometimes it's a single box with assorted 50rd boxes therein. I
was going up there for a while, but I've got enough, a few hundred round of the calibers I use.
Also, the shooting range I use has a decent supply of most calibers, and charges only a couple
dollars a box more than WalMart.

He says he doesn't know beforehand what will arrive. He can tell me what's on order, but not what
will come in. He's a pretty nice guy, and I believe him.

Hope you're having a great day!
